When people offer drugs to Ron or bring drugs up to Ron it makes me so mad. My blood boils. I want to reach through the radio and stab these people a million times in the fucking throat. I don't care if they think they're trying to be witty or funny or whatever but it's just not. It's fucked up. Maybe they don't know or maybe they don't care or maybe they don't think addiction is a serious thing but no matter what it is I get so pissed when I hear it.
Maybe I am taking this too seriously...I dunno...but I love Ron and I feel like I need to protect my Ronniekins.
Tell me I am not alone in this.

It doesn't sound like he's bothered by people bringing up drugs during the show. Offering him drugs on the other hand is real shitty. I know I'm fuckin tired of people asking me if I wanna do some lines.

I can understand these callers although I'd never make the same type of call. Ron does joke about doing lines, etc. and has in the past joked about doing drugs. He just joked with ESD about ESD going to pick some up in his ass. Given that Ron jokes about it, callers think they can make the same joke.

You have to remember that a lot of the listeners are just casual listeners who don't know the show as well as we do. I find it annoying as well, but I believe that most of those callers have no idea of Ron's 12 step background.

I do notice that Ron will often bring the subject up. I just think he's strong enough to deal with it. If it really bothered him I'm sure he'd let the offender know.

I find it annoying when people offer non narcotic pills to him, like "take Melatonin!" I understand the idea they're going for, but its not always the narcotic aspect, it's the feeling.

i once asked Ronnie if he wanted a drink when we were out one night. Immediately I remembered and felt like a jerk... so I quickly added... "you know, like an OJ or a Shirley Temple..." and tried to wink it off. He chuckled cause he knows I am a spazzzz.

very interesting topic.....
it has been my experience that someone like Ron is capable
of being in most situations at this point and not get fucked up.
If Ron got high everytime someone offered him some dope,
you wouldn't be listening to the Ron and Fez show.
They also make jokes about miscarriages- and somehow
I end up laughing - even though it's probably not funny,
but it's in the context of the show- which makes it funny.
I am positive Ron has taken steps to assure that a caller offering
him some pills wouldn't cause him to slip.
Sorry to hear about ESD's dead son.

Nah, you're not alone in that but Ron is a strong guy who has left that part of his life behind him. Plus not everything you hear on the air is legit and truly meant. I know once you're an addict you're always an addict and it's a constant challenge to stay away but he's definitely a strong dude. He'll be fine.

The guy throws out a line about drugs just about every day, so I don't think the calls are all that big a deal.
As for people actually offering stuff to him, that is completely fucked up. You would have to be half a retard to not get that he's a recovering addict. The stupidity of people simply amazes me.

Nah Amy, you're actually right on target. I'd pretty much guarantee anytime someone goofs or brings up drugs to Ronnie, it hits a soft spot and a craving.
He makes fun of it but that stuff doesnt ever leave you, you can be funny with your reply, but the urge is there.

I just think Ronny is cool with it. Look at the way he plays the drug angle on those I57 spots. He's completely acting like it's a drug. He also is in situations all the time where his listeners (and staff) are getting F'd up. He knows how to deal with it. I'm telling you, he's probably, psychologically, one of the strongest people i've ever heard.

It's been almost 8 years, but if someone offered me H, I don't know if I could refuse, but I'm not in recovery either.
Being sober does make you a lot stronger in the face of temptation.

This thread is waaaaay too serious in my opinion, and while I am not an old timer on message boards I am an old time listener. Well aware of Ron's history, but I am also well aware of how Ron uses drugs almost as a running gag. While the callers have pretty much sucked, the references in and of themselves shouldn't and don't bother Ron. I have been off everything (and no you don't get to know what everything is) for about 2 years. Someone joking about it to me is one thing. I can make a joke of it myself, like Ron does...to cope with it. However, that is a lot different than someone walking up to me and handing me dope. I am not honestly sure what I would do or how I would react...since Ii had to move out of state and even leave behind friends that were into that "scene" just to ensure I wasn't tempted.

Haha! I think I'm lamer.
After their final WJFK broadcast, Ron came out to the bar Fez always met with the listeners on Friday nights ("Friday Night Lights") for the first time - when a waitress brought Ronnie a drink a listener had bought, I reached over and pushed it away from him - his chick was sitting next to him and even she didn't act like that. He laughingly yelled at me how he was an adult and could handle it.
We all love our Ron and Fez.

I am not saying it bothers Ron, I am saying it bothers me.
I don't mean to be so serious but it just gets under my skin.
Ron could say he enjoys the drug calls and it would still make me go :furious:

I don't mind it at all. Ron mentions drugs all the time. It was part of who he is and he knows how to deal with it. What I hate is when Fez is crying and people call in for prizes. Thats just heartless and mean. :furious:

If it don't piss off Ron, it don't piss off me. He's the one being offered, I'm not going to be offended for him.
He's never shy with his opinions so if he's being offended, you can rest assured he's gonna let that person know.
He's obviously come to terms with the fact that the rest of the world is going to continue some of the habits he can't anymore.

Yeah. Having been on the (attempted) giving end end of what obviously were some crappy calls I learned that that was what call screeners do. I think it was a problem, the offers would not get on the air. But I think it is nice when someone comes to my defense. I'D BE FLATTERED if some one else did too. I hope I don't ever piss off AngelAmy or anyone else on the boards for that matter. I think it is nice that Amy is sticking up for "Ronnykins" I think it was. What do I know? I am just a "hayseed".

It just bugs me that people don't think Ron wouldn't have tried any of these avenues by himself. He has done it all, if he needed a dipshit to suggest something, he would have aready taken them all.
It makes me mad when Reilly's not around

It makes me mad too. knowing what he has gone through he shouldnt have to put up with it, but he is a big boy. Ron is an old school tough guy. He knows what the right thing is.
But Ronnie....go to sleep please!!! Listen to Free Fm overnight radio...it works for me!!
I have to say it doesn't bother me, because it doesn't seem to bother Ron.
Add to it to the fact, that Ron has made it into a bit many times and I don't see a problem.
But at the same time, I don't think Amy is wrong for it to bother her. People feel protective, even if it doesn't bother the person in question a lot of times...it's only natural.

ron does not meet the criteria for "primary insomnia" as defined by psychiatrists, but it is worth noting that for the field of psychiatry "sleep hygine", not pharmacotherapy, is the first line of treatment.
sleep hygine includes:
-maintain regular sleep schedule
-limit caffeine intake
-avoid daytime naps
-exercise early in the day
-soak in a hot tub prior to bedtime
-avoid large meals near bedtime
remove tv and telephone from bedroom

I agree that the guys who do this are asses, but the bigger asses are the ones that try and slip these guys drugs at events, appearances, etc...unsolicited. Happens more often than you'd expect.
Why do druggies think that radio guys love free drugs??
