As some of you know...I am one of the oldest members of the board. I recently retired from the USCG Reserves after a total of 37 years.....and a number of years with the NYPD.......and a few years as a nurse....

Now I have nothing to do.....I watch TV.....go on the web....shop.....see my kids.....that's it.....I really didnt plan this out.......anyone got suggestions????

my da went a bit bonkers after he retired..he volunteers for a political party now to keep busy and that allows him control over how much he wants to do.

my advice would be to do something like that..do charity work or something worthwhile that you enjoy..raise money for the coastguard or NYPD or something that you care about.

If the cash flow is ok, traveling a little would be cool. Ther are some places I would love tocheck out, but I don;t think I'll get there till iI retire

That's kind of the rub of retirement. We all look forward to that day but it seems like we never seem to plan any further than the first couple weeks. Volunteering would be nice; I'm sure there are several worthy causes that could use a good man like you. You have any hobbies? I play a lil golf here & there hence I've always thought it might be cool to work in a pro shop somewhere when I retire. it wouldn't be the most taxing work but it shouldn't suck either. Knowing that you could tell the man to go fuck himself at any time might be a nice attitude to have as well.

Hi...long time DC lurker who moved to Cali and can't hear the show live, no fancy satellite listening doodads in the car but finally compelled to join the fray...

The thing about retirement I refuse to buy into is the idea that I have to maintain a lifestyle comparable with my peak earning years of the late 30's through '50's. I hate the commercials for companies like Fidelity that show some insanely healthy and happy silver-haired boomers sailing on their yacht or riding their Harleys into the sunset. I'm 45 and plan to buy the RV, travel and live under the radar.

Volunteer at a school, join Big Brothers, share your wisdom and knowledge...seems like you could tell a story or two. Peace

the musuem of natural history has archeology digs around the city and can get you in touch with out fits digging in the badlands. it is always interesting and great to find fossils. plus theres chics of all ages on these sites just waiting for new conquests. if you find just a vertibrae or tooth to some dinosaur they,ll be all over you like a t-rex on a platosaurus.these chics got nothin to do all nite stuck in some tent, but think about the dude who just dug up a piece of history.you can be the alpha male of the species once more.
