so i take my car into the shop this morning cause there my brakes just didn't feel right. brakes on my car are one thing i don't like to mess around with. i get a call later that i need new brakes, new shocks, struts, rotors, 4 tires, and that my power steering cable was leaking and needed to be replaced (i could tell something was wrong with my steering as well and asked them to check it out. so the grand total = $2,600. WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! i know tires are expensive but what the fuck? and i trust this place cause ive been going there since i was 16 for shit and know the guy who is the manager wouldn't dick me over. i couldn't fucking believe how much money it was to fix my car though. FUCK!!!

That doesn't sound too surprising of a price. I'd think about the tires, though. I don't know what kind of shop it is, but tires can be much more expensive if you buy them from the shop that does your work. I get all mine from tirerack.com and have a local shop install them. I end up paying about half of what it would cost me at Costco.

Papabear's got it right. I buy all my tires from tirerack.com too.
Another one I would check out is discount tire direct on line if you are looking for performance tires.
Did the shop give you a break down of the items? Cuz I would think the rotors are the most expensing item.

that sucks man, I feel your pain (see my thread about my Saturn, too lazy to find it right now).
one thing you have to do is decide how long you want to keep your car, will it be cheaper to get everythiogn done or throw it in and get a new one?

Rotors are actually pretty cheap these days. They're so cheap that few shops ever turn them, now. Installing the struts is pretty expensive.

i plan on keeping my car for 5 more years, its an 01 jeep. and its completely paid off. so its worth it to do the repairs.

Nice. go for then, take the hit and do things right now, before things get worse and more expensive.

That seems like a crazy breakdown of almost everything. I don't know much about cars, were the pads worn and messed up things? Did they tell you what happened?

yeah, pads were shot from a ton of uneven wear, was the reason it was "bouncing". im just pissed it all came at the same time. i just had my car inspected like 2 months ago and none of this came up.

Consider yourself lucky that you don't need the calipers replace. They're a lot more than rotors and pads!

Look on the bright side. Even if you had thought of running it off a cliff, there's no guarantee you would have remembered to get out first.
