This probably the most unexciting thing I've ever heard. How about actually having two scientists debate this instead of two politicians trying to create a story to get people talking about them.

I've read in a few places that astronomers are saying there is an increase in solar flares (or some other solar activity) and that the temperatures are also going up on Mercury, Venus and Mars.
Bring on the Escalade (when I save up a few more dollars).

why is it cool to say "Fuck you" to the environment? The notion that doing something to change emissions is bad because:
1- it will hurt business
2- environmentalists are crazies
3- "no ones gonna tell me what to do"
is the most ignorant shit I have ever heard. Why drive an Escolade? because its your right? wow. selfish. self loathing. no respect for your surroundings. fucking crazy talk.
There are probably less than 10 scientists who have published (or are qualified to) papers / studies poo poo'ing the science behind global warming. What happened to American ingenuity? Seems like everyone in this country would be happy working at Burger King, shopping at Wal-Mart, and driving the biggest gas guzzling POS they could afford, while being mortgaged up to the eyeballs for some shitty built McMansion.

If I understood the article correctly, the debate isn't over whether or not climate change is occuring, it's over what to do about it. Why would Gingrich make a 10-point plan detailing how to address climate change if he didn't think it was occuring?

No kidding. By that logic, all the freakishly hot/warm days we've had this winter proves that it does exist. Let's not be willfully ignorant, people.
Oh, and the statement that "global warming doesn't exist" is all but a complete paranoid fallacy. Stop saying it. The major debate is whether not we as humans are responsible for the worst of it and whether or not we can do anything about it, not whether or not it exists.

That pretty much sums up the south.
Oh does it really? That is about the most ignorant horseshit I have ever heard, but it seems to be a fairly common perception in the enlightened "blue state" USA.
I never saw a "mcmansion" neighborhood until I moved to DC. Most construction down there is single family homes and they have visual differences other than the paint on the outside. Everybody in the south does not own a giant SUV or pickup trick with a gun rack and a fucking rebel flag flying. There are, however a shit-load of SUVs up here. Most people in the south don't work at Burger King and shop at Wal-Mart, not that there's anything wrong with shopping at a place that actually stretches your dollar.
I've seen the Beverly Hillbillies on tv too, but I'm not dumb enough to think that they represent everybody in the south. Geographical prejudice is just as ugly as racial prejudice. You may also find it interesting that I've seen more racial division in this area than I ever saw in the south. There are a racist assholes still around in the south, but for the most part, we all live together peacefully and dropping an N-bomb may get your ass kicked by anybody of any race within earshot. In the northeast at least, it seems that racism is so hardcore that you actually still have neighborhoods split up by race AND nationality.
One day maybe my parents will leave their new home in Tennessee and move to the north when they realize that they can get things like indoor plumbing, electricity, television, and books up here.
You have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

Okay I don't drive an Escalade because
1. It costs 40,000 dollars more then what it's worth and
2. It gets at least 10 MPG less then it should.
The costs I blame on the UAW
The mileage I blame on lazy engineering.
Chevrolet has a full size 1/2 ton 4WD pickup equipped with a hybrid motor. Problem is, nobody knows about it because they are too stupid to advertise it.
And my final point is-NO E85 FUEL IN NEW JERSEY YET!!! GODDAMMIT!!

Actually, now that I think about it, your statement reinforces the reality of climate change. If it was warm this time of year when you were a child, and it is cold now, doesn't that tell you something odd is going on with the climate?

I actually don't care about global warming, except to follow the debate whether or not its caused mainly by people or something else.
I would have loved to have seen the blogs and messageboards debating whether or not the Neanderthals were responsible for the Ice Age. I'm pretty sure they were all concerned about that back then.
I'm actually a believer that the climate is probably changing. I'm just not convinced that we are the major cause of this change, if at all. Just look at the power of nature, volcanoes, the hurricanes and such. Then consider the immense energy coming from the sun and outer space and how that energy effects the climate and the change in seasons.
When people get worried about land disappearing due to melting ice, I just kind of think "well, isn't it inevitable?" Wasn't all the continents joined together at one time? Climate change is just a matter of fact.
Now that isn't to say we shouldn't cut back on carbon based fuels. Clean skies and water and less pollution in the groundwater is just more gooder. And I'm all for more-gooder.

'Easter' is not a good date to go by, as it isnt a fixed date, it can occur from March 22nd to April 25th.
I'm glad ManBearPig is no longer on the loose.
Gingrich and Kerry both seem to be desperately looking for their respective 16th minutes.

To be fair, Neanderthals drove hybrids - mammoths that consumed both biofuels, (grass and trees), and what I call homo-fuels, (the Neanderthals themselves). All twelve of them.
But seriously, the power of nature has to be factored into the science, and it is. That's why the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - or whatever the name is - stated that the consensus opinion of the thousands of scientists has reached a 90% chance that humans are the dominant cause of current climate change. (The minute you get a straight answer from a scientist you should be suspicious of him.) But are you discounting the power of humans - 6 billion people living or trying to obtain modern consumer lifestyles - and all that encompasses. For example, as the Supreme Court debate pointed out, cars produce only a fraction of CO2 pollution that industry does. And we've got a shitload of cars all over this world. (I've almost died in about half of them.) It's not that hard to believe that 6 billion people, (and how many cows-a-farting?!), doing what we do can effect the climate is it?

How is it the UAW's fault? For wanting workers to get paid what they are worth? For GM giving them great retirement benefits to get workers? All the UAW wants is the workers to get what they were promised when they hired on. It's not the workers fault that the executives received bonuses in the millions on top of salaries that were in the millions. Hell, executives are still getting large bonuses even while they are cutting the workers pay.
Also, go price a comparatively equipped Tahoe. It's the same vehicle... the biggest differences are the outside appearance and the motor... not worth the price difference IMO.
Chevrolet has a full size 1/2 ton 4WD pickup equipped with a hybrid motor. Problem is, nobody knows about it because they are too stupid to advertise it.
no, GM dropped that truck because it had the same fuel economy rating (give or take 1MPG) and cost nearly $10,000 more. No one was buying them.

Time magazine had an article on how to reduce carbon emissions, some made sense but there was one section that said to move to Manhattan, this way you can take the subway or walk to work. don't they know that a 1 bedroom apartment costs about half a million dollars to buy, and on top of that the high taxes one would have to pay. Another recommendation was to have a carbon tax levied
