RonFez.Net Cigar Tasting - 4/21

After the first NJ bar night, I was talking to Stugots and brought up the idea of a cigar tasting. After that he assisted me in combing New York City for a place to hang out, smoke cigars, and chill. Today, we bring it to you!

On April 21, 2007, we bring it to the back patio of the Double Down Saloon in NYC. Cigars will be supplied by Don Rigo's Cigars, alcohol by the Double Down. Cigars will be sold as 4 cigars for $5 (I need to talk to Jose again and I'll post exactly what cigars, but Jose told me he would going into his personal stash for this event)

You do not have to buy cigars, smoke or anything else for this event, if you don't want to. If you want to come out and drink away from the smokers, you can always go inside the bar and drink their fabled Ass Juice shots or Bacon Martinis.

If you think you may be coming, say you think you may be coming. I would rather err on the side of asking Jose to bring too many cigars than falling short.

And RonFez.Net is not handling anything for this event. As of now, Jose will come down with the cigars and you will buy them from him directly. If he can't make it, then things change. Of course, all alcohol is provided by the Double Down Saloon.

I've also asked Jose if he wouldn't mind spending a few minutes teaching those of us who are interested a little bit about the cigars he's bringing. As a fairly neophyte cigar smoker myself, I think it would be interesting to listen to a professional teach us about cigars. If you just want to smoke and don't care about learning about cigars, then you're welcome to do your thing.

Oh and these are not $1.25 cigars. They are cigars of varying value, but part of it is Jose is letting us get them cheaper so he can make room for new stock. So you are not buying cheap cigars, you are buying good cigars at a cheap price.

no.... a tasting is typically an event to go to to try quite a few different cigars you've never had... This almost sounds to be more of a herf then a tasting.

I spoke to Jose from Don Rigo this morning. We will be setting up deals for Ron and Fez fans, where if you purchase thru these deals, 50% will be donated to Jimmy Plocica's kids.

In addition, Jose is giving us a humidor that is valued at $250 to be raffled off on Saturday, and all raffle proceeds will be going to the kids as well.

If you don't want to smoke, you can always go into the bar itself. I've drank there before and it's a very cool bar, and very cool staff.

They have an outdoor patio in the back, where they do things like BBQs in the summer. That's where the smoking will be.

2) Jose's cigars ROCK. I have made a point of going out and buying cigars rated 92 and above by Cigar Aficionado, and though I'm a bit biased, Jose's beat them every time. His family really puts a lot into their cigars and it shows.

3) once he's discovered by the cigar illuminati, these cigars will sell for 20 times what they're selling for now. If Jose' can market himself as a creator of "boutique" cigars, it's all over; none of us will be able to afford them.

4) as your doctor, I can't condone your smoking of tobacco products.

I am looking for a really mellow smoke - I'm not a big smoker but I like a good cigar every now and then and really want to buy some Don Rigo's for my Dad and I to share.

there are just a few left, but the "Biaggios" are extremely mellow. These were cigars that Jose's grandfather made 15 years ago and they sat lost in a warehouse (apparently humidified) all those years.

seriously, no you didn't. as wonderful as they sound, they lacked that certain thing. i can not place my finger on the word, but i think i am looking for tasting good. they were horrific.

Don Rigo Cigars are amazing. The Torpedo's taste excellent and were a great smoke. Jose could not have been a nicer guy.

I guess EVERYONE got a boobies text from Stugots. I can't keep track of these events, though me, Amy and Stu may have set the record for four events in two days. Woooooooooooooooooooooooot! We had a great time at the cigar tasting. I didn't buy any cigars this time as I was a little short on cash but I did have some ass juice and beers.
