I'd support the Brewers in the NL if they brought back thier old uni's and stopped distancing themself from beer. Enough of the damn barley I want the mug.

They wear those uniforms every Friday night at home in a "retro-Friday" themed promotion. And yes I do own one of the old school hats:

No, I saw the game on TV tonight and I've got things going on all day tomorrow. I'm actually in Menomonee Falls and where are you?

I'll be there in early June for the Cubs...I believe Johnny Walker will be there as well.

I guess I can feel ok tonight. They really took care of Tomko & it's damned nice to have Rickie bad healthy.

I'm starting to think that Gwynn is gonna be their opening day leadoff hitter at the beginning of 2008.

I never realized he was supposed to be that good, I thought he was going to be a platoon player for a while. Ugh, hopefully Suppan can make it through 7, single and home by kent. 8-3. Looks like they moved bill hall down to 7 huh. Wonder if that's just a one day thing.

I think Gwynn was a 2nd round pick...but I always thought he'd be a platoon guy or a 4th outfielder. But he's fast as hell & has a great command of the strike zone.

I would guess Suppan would grind out another inning. He's a veteran...he knows the job.

From Today's Journal Sentinel:

For the first time this season, Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Bill Hall batted in a spot other than cleanup Monday night. But don't expect that to be a trend. In fact, according to manager Ned Yost, it was probably a one-time maneuver.

epo

From my email & the Brewers:

The Milwaukee Brewers today purchased the contract of 3B Ryan
Braun from Triple-A Nashville. He will wear uniform #8 and will
be making his Major League debut. He is expected to join the
team tomorrow in San Diego.

Braun was named 2006 Brewers Minor League Player of the Year
as he batted .289 with 22 HR, 77 RBI and 26 stolen bases in 118
games between Class-A Brevard County and Double-A Huntsville
last season. Following the season, he played for the Scottsdale
Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League, where he was named to the
All-Prospect Team, batting .326 with 6 HR, 25 RBI and 4 stolen
bases in 25 games.

He batted .342 with 10 HR, 22 RBI and 4 stolen bases in 33 games
for Nashville this season.

Oh boy we are in a shit storm. Cappy has a pretty good game and we still couldn't pull it out. I'm gone for a week and we get swept by the padres. Not to mention we haven't won a series since they swept the nats. Hopefully sheets can get it together tomorrow. It's really odd they have braun at 3. Seems like too much responsibility for any rookie no matter how good.

Our Brewers have been playing like shit for the last two weeks. The irony is so far it hasn't really mattered in the Central.

It hasn't really been the pitching that has been the problem...but rather a stagnant offense. I'm guessing that has a large part to do with Ned putting Braun in the 3-hole today. Plus look at the slumps in the balance of the order: Hall? Jenkins? Mench?

It's gotta get better.

Same here, he pitched a pretty good game until he gave up a single homer and then got charged for a run off another homer in the 7th. Cordero had to make it fun once again. Other than that you can't ask for anything more from the brewers. Won the last two series on the road against two damn good teams and off to a great start with this one.

Cubs are hot, baby! Just swept the Rockies for their 6th win in a row! Just 1 game under .500 now! You're coming into OUR house, and the bats are live...IT'S ON.

Did you see Fontenot's homer today? Wow that was amazing.

Yeah, I was pretty taken aback by that. He's not a big guy, but he's solid and he has this wicked fast bat swing that he can just snap the balls off of.

This weekend's pitching matchups:

Friday:

Yovani Gallardo (1-0, 2.70 ERA) vs. Rich Hill (5-5, 3.13 ERA)

Saturday:

Ben Sheets (9-3, 3.09 ERA) vs. Sean Marshall (4-2, 2.44 ERA)

Sunday:

TBD --likely Dave Bush (6-6, 5.06 ERA) vs. Jason Marquis (5-4, 3.46 ERA)

Not to sound like a homer...but I like our odds...especially not facing Zambrano.

I'll be happy if the Cubs go something like 5-2 over the next 7 and ideally make up a game on the Brewers. Going into the break down 5.5 is something they can make up with all the baseball left. I wanna see a chase!

Not really. I was really nervous going into today since Marquis was having trouble even getting to 6 innings, but he went 7 full and then Marmol had the last 2. Lou did a good job of spacing out who he have and still resting about half the pen each day. They were close to getting taxed, but I think they squeaked by. They've been worked harder earlier in the year and made it out of that. With Lilly and Zambrano pitching next, the bullpen will likely only have to pitch 4 innings or less over the next 2 games.

I'm not sure who made it off of that 1982 team, but seriously they were loaded. Cecil Cooper was the man at first base. Pete Vuckovich was an CY Young type pitcher as was Rollie Fingers out of the pen. Also Ted Simmons, Ben Oglivie, Mike Caldwell & Don Sutton weren't too bad either.

I lucked out and got tickets to last night's game, so it was a ton of fun. The crowd was really into it.

Jacque Jones looked even more lost than he usually does against lefties. His at bat was particularly embarrassing.

Of course I enjoyed tonight's game as the Crew wins 6-1 to make up for last night's shit. Mostly it was good to see Ben Sheets back and looking good. Hopefully he can help stabilize the rotation down the stretch....

I don't know what to make of this NL Central.

The Cubs are such a schizophrenic team, it's hard to predict where they're going. Strong start aside, the Brewers have looked horrendous for an extended period of time and haven't really played anything like a playoff team lately. And just when I thought the Cardinals were going to ride their momentum all the way through, they've stumbled a little bit lately.

It's tough to figure out...I'd say the Brewers have the most talented team on paper. But they haven't really shown it (excluding tonight).

Maybe getting Sheets back makes everything fall in line.

Do Brewers fans kinda hate Ned Yost? I'm baffled as to why he didn't PH Jenkins with the bases loaded and his RH numbers.

The casual Brewer fans hate Yost and have for awhile. Diehard fans like Ned alot. It's a big issue on AM Sports talk radio. Luckily the casual fans now have Packer football to pay attention to.

Ned did point out that Jenkins' career numbers vs. Dempster weren't really that great...hence he stuck with Mench.

Umm...it's tighter than ever:

Chi. Cubs 70 67 .511 -
Milwaukee 70 68 .507 ½
St. Louis 68 67 .504 1

The only question is will somebody get hot or will it be a pathetic trip to the end?

I vote the latter. The Cardinals start playing tougher teams, you guys go on the road now where you're horrible and the Cubs go on to play a bunch of middling NL Central teams that everyone can beat except them.

That said, I'm still calling the Cardinals to take it in the end, but only by 2-3 games at the very most.

Agreed. Mulder is back tomorrow. He may not be great but it means Kip Wells can rot in the bullpen instead of handing over every game he starts after 2 innings. Plus, their bullpen is strong. Something like 57-0 if they are ahead after 7 innings.

No one has been able to pull away yet so i'm expecting this thing to come down to the last few days before it is finally settled. And then whoever wins this miserable race politely bows out in the first round of the playoffs.

Nevermind. Apparently Mulder spent his time off studying Kip Wells' mechanics.

I gotta admit, I'm cheering for a Dodger rally as the Brewers beat up the Astros pretty good tonight, 14-2.

Hey, the Dodgers win and now we've gotta tie for the NL Central Division.

Thank God for that Andre Ethier kid and his magic 3-run HR.

This whole Dempster failing thing is getting fun. Brewers with a solid win and a game lead again in the Central.

I know the Cardinals are still *in* it....but I'm getting the feeling they don't have much steam left.

Hey Prince Fielder is now the single season HR leader for the Milwaukee Brewers. Homerun #46...and now we've got a 3-1 lead in the 3rd against the Reds.

Let's go Cardinals....we could use your help!

The Crew cruises to a 9-1 win tonight....but even better those Reds didn't shit away the lead tonight and beat the Cubs.

We're tied for first baby with 15 games to go!
