The "com" in "sticom" refers to something that would be funny. That said, there are only two funny "black sitcoms".
Good Times
Sanford and Son
Not necessarily in that order. Lock it up.

I'll try it again...
another time. I fucking hate it, when I try to hit "spell check" and accidentally hit "new posts". A brief synopsis...
When I watched "Good Times" and "Sanford & Son" as a kid, I laughed... understood what it was like to be poor, and didn't really think about them being black (btw... I think "African American" is a title that is insulting to "black people").
"What's Happening" was funny, but bothered me on many levels. "The Jeffersons" was the harbinger of "The Cosby Show" (black people can be funny, if they are rich). I preferred them when they lived next to the semi-racist guy on "All In The Family"... When they made him think.
Fuck.... I guess I won't do it another time. I just did it.
Oh, yeah... One more thing. I think any "black sticom" that has surfaced since, is insulting to black people. Then again... so is every "white" sitcom. Sitcoms all suck.
Where is Blowhard when you need him?

I was always a Good Times guy myself. Wilonna and Thalma always did it for me...
The Planet of the Apes TV series runs a close 2nd though...
Do I hear some Ani DeFranco music being cued up?

Sanford & Son for me. But, as was mentioned by someone else, it wasn't a "black" sitcom as much as just a sitcom to me.

i am glad i am not alone on the black sitcoms. EX #2 was too good to watch them and whenever i brought them up, she looked at me like i was nuts. Regina on the other hand has never seen these shows since she didnt speak english at the time.

I hate to argue with you but There was nothing "underrated" about AITF it is considered one of top shows of all time. Groundbreaking, controversial, and all around well reviewed. Archie Bunker was amazing.

id rather watch an all in the family then friends
with the emergence of a new late demo (the sports center/ adult swim demo) i think this show could be very successful again if spoon fed to the generation next stoners

Does anybody remember "The New Odd Couple"?
It used Ron Glass (from Barney Miller) & Desmond Wilson (from Sanford & Son) as the traditional Oscar & Felix roles.

Fat Has Found That The Best Way To Get A Song Out Of His Head Is To Replace It With AnotherSong. Reilly Should Try Humming This For A While:
"Come And Knock On My Door...Mike A Wish That Is True...Where The Laughter Is Hers And Hers And His...Three's Company Too".

I agree. It's not the best Black comedy but it's definitely a favorite of mine. Martin was a hilarious show. Now that season one is on DVD, hopefully it'll sell enough for the other seasons to be put on DVD. It's been a long-awaited release.

How can you? Between Dwayne falling off the skateboard straight onto his ass and the hammerin' organ, it may be the greatest TV theme of all time...
But then again, this one gives it a real run for its money... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vbnLYROCj8)

Sanford and Son ruled but I didn't think of it as a "black sitcom" either. That shit is still funny. How bad was The Fresh Prince? I always wanted to bang Hillary and eventually the younger sister. Someone already said it but the Jeffersons were funnier when they lived next door to Archie Bunker. You probably couldn't put All In The Family in network prime time today.
