I saw on the news recently that the person who wins the election in '08 is going to have to raise over 500 million dollars. Face it Big Corporations will pour tons of money to the GOP and the Democrats will whore themselves out to every special interest group, labor unions and even Hollywood. Even the whole campaign process has started too early. John Edwards can't take a day off. Im sure he would like to be at his wifes side for chemo, but if he does he would fall behind everyone else in fund raising. Plus of course the media loves to talk about November '08 like its next month.

We spend so much money for all these asses to get elected. I was watching some show and the mayor of Atlanta raised and spent more then 8million to win the election to be mayor of a small city like that. Thats just nuts. We should make it so you get to run a certain # of tv ads, radio ads etc and no other group like the scum bag swift boat people can place any attacks ads. It should be paid for by the federal govt for all parties candidates. This will help 3rd and 4th party candidates have a chance.
I love how so many people will donate, give, throw away money to help someone get elected but when it comes to helping the poor they dont give 2 shits.

are we advocating for campaign finance reform?
because i know another way (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coup)
or we could just convince the hayseeds not to do things based on media suggestion
seriously-pick a horse you fucking middle of the road douches
Obama wrote in his book what a campaign is like. Basically whenever you are not seeing a candidate at a campaign rally he is either sleeping or on the phone begging people for money. And that was just on his Senate campaign. It's got to be even worse running for President. You don't need to be a communist to see something seriously wrong with this.

Remember when the clowns were voting for the medicare drug bill? One congressman was retiring and a drug company rep supposedly told him if he voted for "their" bill they would pour money into his son's campaign for his vacant seat. But if he didn't vote for "their" bill they would give the money to his son's opponent. The conversation supposedly took place but there were a lot of denials after the fact and the story faded away.
Don't count Edwards out. He won a senate seat in NC as a Democrat and that's old Jesse Helms territory. He can win anywhere. If he gets some momentum coming out of Iowa and New Hampshire he could pull off the nomination. And I kinda think he's the best shot for the Democrats. He'll have to put forth more effort than he did in '04 as VP though. The way that campaign went it left me questioning whether Kerry or Edwards actually wanted to win. Seemed like a weak effort and Kerry had a lot of money left over.

Good idea.
Another idea (and I'm sure this will annoy some people) is to adopt a parliamentary-style campaign system. Take the UK for example: elections are not held until the government (government here meaning the existing distribution of power between political parties in Parliament and the Cabinet) dissolves (except if the government holds out for 5 years, at which time elections are forced). Thus, noone has any certain knowledge of when elections will be held. Once elections are announced, candidates have only one month to campaign, and that is it. This sort of system would ensure that politicians focus more on doing thier jobs, not on campaigning for an election that is years away. It would also limit the amount of influence financial contributors have, as campaigns will not cost nearly as much.
