This all began earlier this week when Imus referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team that played in the national championship game Tuesday night as "some nappy-headed ho's." Imus has apologized since, but that's not quite good enough for Al Sharpton, who is calling for Imus' resignation. Story here.

I'm torn about that. It's a pretty brutal comment, but, to me, it doesn't completely stray into the Greaseman "This is why we drag them behind trucks" territory that I think would really lead to a career ending. And, to be frank, don't you hear worse on O&A quite a bit?

I'm with Imus here, just because I fear the consequences if he's forced out; racial material would be, basically, ended, because the effects could ripple into satellite as well as terrestrial radio.

I guess it all comes down to this: where's the line? When do you say something that ends your career?

fuck Imus for apologizing and cowtowing to that racist Al Sharpton.

Any respect I had left for him is gone.

Al Sharpton is a fucking clown. He should be sweeping people off stage with a big broom or riding a little bike.

No one takes him seriously or respects him. He should go fuck his mama.

Furor rages despite Imus’ apology for remark
Sharpton, journalists call for radio personality’s resignation for using slur (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17999196/)

Unimpressed by his on-air apology or corporate promises of a tighter leash, angry critics of nationally syndicated radio host Don Imus called Saturday for his dismissal over his racially charged comments about the mostly black Rutgers women’s basketball team.

“I accept his apology, just as I want his bosses to accept his resignation,” said the Rev. Al Sharpton. He promised to picket Imus’ New York radio home, WFAN-AM, unless the veteran of nearly 40 years of anything-goes broadcasting is gone within a week.

This is either the best thing that has happened to Imus in years, or will get him fired. Depends on WFAN management. When Mel Karmizan was running Infinity, I would have been confident that Imus would ride out the storm. But in today's radio environment, I'm not so sure.
