View Full Version : Remember "HeadShops"?

Back in the 60's I remember "Headshops", stores where you could buy pipes, bongs, papers, incense, posters, beads, clothing, all types of cool stuff. Am I the only one who remembers these stores?

I still have on in my town. It's called Utopia. It right on Route 1.

Make a joke and I will sigh, and you will laugh and I will cry.

You'd walk in and the stench of incense would knock you on your ass! I got the best Lynyrd Skynyrd shirts in the world at the head shop.

I remember way back when in the Sunrise mall there was a place called the Jolly Joint.

In VA all of the record shops used to have head shops in them. For all of your tobacco needs.

When the first one opened up in my town, my parents would call it "that hippie store". Telling me I better never go in there. So if they said don't, I automatically did. They had great black light posters and the craftmanship on some of the bongs was amazing. I bought so many "Better Living Chemsitry Shirts" with either THC, or LSD written on them, that I should have become a scientist.

When I was growing up in the Bronx, we had a headshop a few blocks from my house. It was the coolest place to hang out. I was there everyday after school and I became a regular there until one day, who passes by? My old man and his head swivels like a turret on a tank and catches sight of me in there. Damn, did the shit hit the fan!!!!

I remember buying a "Jethro Tull" roachclip, along with "The Power Hitter", that big blue plastic thing you would stick joints into.

Anyone ever go to a "headshop" in Amsterdam? Everything's out in the open-- you can buy what ever you want. The "bars" are even better!

in our area, the shop owner wasn't allowed to say words like pipe, smoke, rolling papers, ect.by the authorities' standards.they would call these brass or plastic tubes fixtures or apparatus.if a customer came in looking for a pipe, they were told they weren't sold there.we used to go in sometimes just to mess with their heads.

speaking of t-shirts,i bought a captain america shirt in a head shop once.could you imagine walking around with that before september?

and they gave him a free
glass bubbler (or bubblah
as they call it in Rhode
Island). Nice!

I remember for english class in our senior year we had to do a class demonstration. One kid made a pipe out of a paper towel roll. It was the funniest thing. The teacher let him do it. He said it was for tobacco.

Back in 83.

I read that you could make a "tobacco or tobacco blend" pipe by coring an apple and cutting a hole in the side, then you make a bowl in the top. (PS thanks to heckler for making me piss my pants with his sig/movie trailer)

It's easy for 5 head shops to survive in a place like New Paltz. The demographics of "users" range from six to sixty.

A woman that attended my BBQ on Sunday told me she's in the process of opening a head shop.

She said she likes to think of it as a "unique gift shop." She's in her 50's, by the way.

Gotta love old hippies.
