Don Stugots

Im sorry. Nappy hair isnt just black. My puerto rican friend has nappy hair. Nappy isnt racist. Is it just me? I know that Imus was pointing out black, but this caller isnt making a good argument.

sailor

my thing is, nappy-headed is hjust pointing out a fact. it's not a slur. what, if they had ashy skin you couldn't say that either?

hey, that was my instant feedback: "gotta learn how you black people do that" anthony, talking aboot how black people don't hate all white people when one does something bad.

In case you missed it, Patrice called in on the last few minutes of the FM show and pretty much nailed it from a 'real' black man opinion. He's not offended. He feels his peoples' so called 'leaders' are strictly there to kick someone while they're down.

yeah, if you can't say nappy hair, you can't say things like blond hair, because the first thing people would think of is a white person. it's just descriptive.

That's not true. After her latest John Edwards flap there were a bunch of people, both liberal and conservative (mostly liberal) who were questioning why she was speaking at such a prominent conservative conference. And maybe I'm going on stereotypes here but I think the people who were clapping and cheering for her aren't the kinds of people who are for political correctness and want Imus fired. I'm sure most of them would probably support him for a variety of reasons.

And a bunch of newspapers dropped her column as well following that. But she already operates very much in a niche market; super-hyper-crazy conservatives. There will always be an audience for her as long as she goes after liberals as savagely as possible.

I feel really badly for Imus - he is getting raked over the coals for a minor infraction. They are just words people.

However, I am also ready to move on to something else. I know this is a huge story and has implications for O&A, but I am selfish and want to hear something funny.

I'm not belittling the situation, just being self centered. Work is tough enough without being angry too.

i think they're kinda missing a little bit of the point, al sharpton and all the people that follow him that will boycott, and the sponsers that will pull from his show are not the government, granted it sucks and these people can vote and have clout, but they cant really limit free speech by law. Those people have the right to do all the stuff they do and it doesnt matter what they're intentions or motives are.

actually, when i was reading on the aclu website yesterday, this seems to be the best reaction to take to a private group's censorship attempt. they said to mobilize privately against it was the proper course to take. also, if they don't talk aboot it, and all the anti-imus people continue, it'll sound like everyone's against him. and personally, i like o&a best when they're angry and fighting with people.

AS tired as I am of the whole issue, you are absolutely right. At least O&A are a loud, readily heard pro-Imus voice in a sea of protesters.

For my personal entertainment, I am flipping around the dial frequently. However I am glad they are doing it and proud that they are standing up for Imus.

then don't listen dude... Opie has started the show the last three days saying "todays show could be our last show". This story has taken us in a million directions and that angle is most important to them and to all of us as fans. This witch hunt is ridiculous, I have lost all respect (well at least for those whom I have previously had respect for) for everyone who has participated in this phony outrage. More importantly how this effects us? Lets say one day some higher up at CNN or Fox has a hard on for O & A, or if Ron and Fez piss off a politician who has a ton of clout with the networks. We now know if they decide to have an intern put together a bunch of O & A or Ron & Fez clips with them using racial humor, play them out of context, over and over, pounding it into the publics head they will be gone.

thinking aboot it, o&a and r&f have more security, at least on the xm side. xm isn't as reliant on advertising dollars. they make the vast majority of their cash thru subs and xm knows how many subs these two shows bring to the table. the only trouble i could fathom would be if somehow controversy surrounding them could be used to hold up the merger (which i REALLY can't see). but yes, both shows have a lot worse material than one throw-away comment to be rounded up against them.

in the majority of cases, absolutely that's true (in "at will" employment, either side can end the relationship for virtually any reason [short of discrimination, etc.]). when you have a contract, there are limits on both sides.

Let me preface my statement by saying that I love Anthony. I think he's a brilliant comedic talent and a genuinely nice guy. But does anyone else find it a wee bit hypocritical that he's stated time and again all week that he wants "everyone to have free speech" yet he constantly bemoans what people write about him on various messageboards and routinely bans people for saying things he doesn't agree with?

I've always taken those things, particularly the bannings, as a bit. I'm not sure what people are writeing about him on the others boards, but I guess I could see where negative comments might reach a critical mass and he just feels he has to spout off about them. Just my take.

It's the messageboard corollary, where the 1st amendment doesn't apply when someone else is paying for it. As Anthony has a partial bankroll in Wackbag (rumored) and paid for the paltalk room, it's his right.

Gvac
04-13-2007, 06:12 PM
I didn't say it wasn't his right, I just thought it ironic that he's been screaming all week about how he wants free speech for EVERYONE, even people he disagrees with.

It's not exactly practicing what he preaches.

So he's assuming a right he doesn't want to apply to his employers?
