I hear Ron and O&A say this shit all the time
Then tonight I"m watching Godfather II and I noticed Mama Corleone tell Connie she'll have to wait online for her brother like everyone else
I've never heard this expression IRL

Yeah, Where Fat Grew Up In The Midwest, You Waited "In Line". Here In NJ And The Rest Of The Northeast, You Wait "On Line".
It Is A Stupid Expression And After Living In The East 35+ Years Fat Still Hates It.
You Should Wait IN LINE, Dammit!!!

I always thought it was a British thing that Americans started picking up in the past few years. The one that always bothered me (again, a British thing) is "in hospital" instead of "in the hospital".

Yeah, it comes from watching to much BBC America. I did go "on holiday" there a couple of years ago, but I agree its usually a pretentious saying when Americans use it. I just like it because the yokels here think it's a foreign language.

When I was a kid, I knew this other kid from Northern Ireland. We were going to the Statue of Liberty and the line was long. He said he was going to "bump the queue." I had no clue what he was talking about.

Yeah, its a north east thing, I hear it occasionally on the show, and last time I was in New York I remember seeing signs in some places about waiting 'on line'. Its really weird. On line is what you are when you're using the internet, not when you're at the DMV, unless they have wireless of course, then you could be online while in line.

Dude... Batting an eye would be a very serious response to ANY phrase. Don't be hitting people in the eye with a bat. It hurts. It hurts bad. REALLY, REALLY BAD!!!!

i apologize. i realise the error of my ways. it was a one-time stupid comment. it's not an excuse, but the context has to be taken into consideration. it will never happen again. i'm sorry.

Apology accepted. Now, put down the bat, and step AWAY from the British people.

Actually, that makes sense to me.
If I go to the bank, I'm usually waiting ON line. But if someone calls me and asks me what I'm doing, I'll say "I'm waiting IN line."

I used to work with someone who always referred to his "mobile phone". He's lived his entire life in Bergen County, NJ.
