Do You Have A "Second Favorite" Team?

This is something I can't really understand, because all my passion goes to my favorite team in baseball, football, and hockey. I know a lot of people, though, who have a "2nd favorite" team.

I do pull for the Detroit Tigers in baseball because they have the same owner as my beloved Red Wings, but I don't really follow them or live and die with them.

Being an out of town fan, I do watch the local teams and follow them somewhat, but I can't really say I have a rooting interest in any of them unless their win or loss benefits my boys somehow.

How about you? Do you have another team that you pull for besides your favorite?

I devote so much to the teams that i root for, that i do not have enough in me to root for another team..

Favorites are: Red Wings, White Sox, 49ers and Nets

2nd Favorites: Devils, Mets, Padres, Chargers, and Lakers

If I root for a 2nd team i try to make it either local or in the separate conference that way there is no problems until championship.

I used to. I've always been a Mets fan, but I used to root for the White Sox as my American League team (I was a Black Jack fan.) It was before Interleague, there was no chance the Mets would play the ChiSox unless they met in the World Series, where I would forget that I cared one bit about the Chicago and pull for the Amazins.

this really isn't a 2nd favorite, but i always used to root for the bengals when they were bad. except that time they beat the shit out of the broncos

edit: i also have a soft spot for the pitt steelers and bucs, but that's more i like my dad to be happy and they're his local teams growing up.)

I love sports, so I enjoy watching Mets and Giants games if they're on, but I don't puport myself to be a fan of the teams. I won't buy a piece of merchandise or something, but I'll watch if they're on.

I think the only place this affects me is College Football, where I watch WVU and Rutgers and Monmouth.

Favorite teams: Dolphins, Nets, Yankees (but slowly hating them b/c of their fans and salaries)

2nd Favs: I dont really have any. I root for some players so other teams I will root for depneds on the players and sometimes the feel good underdog teams like Det last year etc.

i used to be a Vikings #1 and Giants #2 fan. when the Gints won their first super bowl I was ecstatic. BUT THEN I went to my first Vikings/Giant football game at the meadowlands and the Vikings were winning for 3 quarters and the Gints came back and beat them. From that day on I hated the Gints with a passion.

But now I don't follow any team so fuck e'm all :thumbdown:

back in like '95 i really liked frank thomas so i would root for the white sox when i wasnt rooting for the phillies. i still on occasion watch a white sox game and cheer for them. when they were in the world series recently i was rooting for them to win.

thomas deserved a ring and he got one.... even though he sat the bench with an injury

Before interleague play I think it was okay to have a second favorite team, as long as they played in the opposite league. Being a lifelong Mets fan, they were always my favorite, but my favorite AL team was the Blue Jays. I cheered for the Jays when they were in the World Series, but had the Mets faced them, then I would've cheered for the Mets.
Once interleague play started, I stopped cheering for the Jays and just stuck with the Mets.

yeah, most of my teams suck. and of course the rangers and devils are doing well enough. ugh. plus, my entire wife's family are hardcore devil's fans. double-ugh.
