Will a poppy seed bagel/muffin really mess up a drug test?

The sites I've searched that claim the poppy seeds can result in false positives (for opiods) seem to be from people or groups pushing for the legalization of drugs or (more usually) from people who want to sell you a product to guarantee that you'll pass any drug test.

The ACLU, a more reputable but still somewhat suspect source reports that poppy seeds can result in some false positives for heroin.

The best answer I've found, intelligently discusses the issue, while eliminating some of the hysteria and snake oil salesmanship:

"A test may be considered positive for heroin, legally and scientifically only if heroin, or its metabolite momoacetylmorphine (6-mam), is identified in the urine specimen. This result cannot be caused by consuming poppy seeds. This determination can only be made by a Medical Review Officer pursuant to an analysis by gc/ms for 6-mam or heroin."

Thus it's conceivable but not very likely.

I highly doubt it. I have a friend who is a nurse in a detox unit and I asked him the same question awhile ago. He told me that 1 bagel won't do it-maybe 10!!

i always thought it could like alot of them would but most importanly is if your going to take a drug test dont exercise at all cause stuff is stored in your fat and it will end up in ur pee
