Subliminal Advertising

For some reason I decided to Google the subject of subliminal advertising and found a few convincing examples that it does indeed exist.

My favorite is a Coca-Cola ad that obviously shows a woman about to perform oral sex in one of the ice cubes.

Another ad for Benson & Hedges cigarettes (http://subliminalsex.com/subliminal%20advertising%20example.htm) is a pretty blatant example also.

Yeah i remember it was a big thing in the 70s/80s 'The Hidden Persuaders' or some book touted subliminal ads but I'm not sure they ever had any effect, like backwards messages in songs.

I do remember they tried a form of it to try to catch the BTK Killer. After BTK started sending mail to a TV station they went on the air and appealed to him, and during the appeal, they displayed 'Call The Sheriff' or something like that for a split second on the tube. No effect, but pretty cool.

Part of me wants to believe a bit of it if only because were so easily fooled in so many other cognitive areas; optical/aural illusions and all that.

that coke BJ one was some artist's idea of a joke. he got in a boatload of trouble when that was discovered. subliminal ads work indirectly, i think. like that study they did putting up images of popcorn during a movie. when the intermission came, everyone ran out to buy soda. interesting crap.
