I hate it when Ron and Fez get the ol' shortporch particularly because I like to listen to them while I'm working out at the gym around 7pm during the week. They make the old boring treadmill much more gooder and endurable... if it's a short porch, I tend to stop running around the time they end. In closing, the short porch is affecting my general good health in a negative way, and I want FreeFM to make it stop. If for no other reason, think of me fellas. I've still gotta lose 15lbs before June or I'll go Kirk Douglas on your ass!

Now that I've gotten that out of my system...

The "short porch" comes around when there's overflow on WFAN, when either the devils or Nets play on the same night, or the Mets, etc.

Mets take precedent on WFAN over all sports. Then the Giants.

The short porch is more prevalent now because the Mets, Devils, and Nets are all still playing, and CBS is contractually obligated to put them on the air. We're not going to have this problem by late May unless there's an improbable run.

Sports on the radio also probably makes more money than talk at night.

However, why they are putting them on Free-FM instead of JACK is beyond me. Probably because Jack is more female-oriented, even with the 80's rock.

I disagree, some people have more interests other then talk radio or ron and fez. Some of you guys listen to o&a rf both have 2 shows on satelite and free radio. I think 6 hours is enough and if it gets cut short by a couple of hours for some variety so be it.

It is horseshit, and it was horseshit when they got bumped at WJFK on short porch nights - something that Tenbat has complained/mocked out at the drop of the hat for the last two years. This is actually worse for the NY listeners - in 2004-2005, they had a longer show. Good news is that the seasons are about done.

I have to agree. When I sit down on nights I can listen at home, I will sometimes tune into 92.3 FM early so I'm just on the station and I can sit at my computer. That means I will catch 10-30 minutes of The Radio Chick.

It's really not good. Like at all. Nothing sounds natural, Chuck is WAAAAY over the top and the rest of the crew is not memorable. I'd love to see a longer Ron and Fez show. Cut the Chick.

Any time there is a short porch, I just fire up an MP3 of the XM show where I am perpetually two months behind. Through the DC years I never had the luxury of listening in real time, so I'm totally conditioned to listen to well-aged shows where I can skip through the commercials.

Here's what it sounds like:

Free-FM is the closest thing to the WFAN demo. The Yankees being on WCBS-AM is an aberration; they made the move when WABC dropped the contract. CBS has the luxury of having two highly-rated news stations that don't cannibalize each others ratings.

Personally, I'd put the games on JACK instead of Free. Fresh 102.7 is actually gaining ratings at a much faster pace than Blink/Mix/etc. so it might be the format that actually sticks.

But with Joel Hollander out, they might be flushing Jack on WCBS and putting something else on there.
