I posted this clip in the youtube thread, but I thought it was really worth bringing it to everyone's attention. This is a clip from Crossfire, featuring Frank Zappa and a discussion of censorship. The first five minutes are a little slow, but then the discussion becomes all too familiar.

Again I say, I love Frank Zappa. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ISil7IHzxc)

Zappa is the shit.

This debate has been going on for years, and will continue to go on as long as politicians can continue to score points by blaming violence and the general decline of "moral" values on TV, music, video games, etc.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. The right of people to express themselves through music, video games, film, or whatever is well established, and I don't think any serious censorship of these art forms will ever occur. At least not by the government; the corporations which produce such products will censor things if they want, but as long as they sell, they will not do so.
BTW, that four-eyed fuck John Lofton is a fucking douchebag. "Songs that advocate incest"?? Love how he couldn't name one when Zappa asked him to. What a little turd. I hope he's dead. Also, he has no fucking idea how government operates. He said our elected officials carry out the law; no, our elected officials make the law, and the unelected bureacracy carries them out. Fucking idiot.
Also, they are discussing "offensive" rock n roll, and they cite a clip from a Twisted Sister video??? Granted, their music sucked, but what is pornographic or satanic about the song "I Want to Rock"?

unbelievably

I also loved how Lofton essentially said he doesn't think young people should vote. Fear a little change there, do ya?

I gotta give Zappa hella props. Not only did he defend his position extremely well, he showed incredible restraint. Just watching the video made me want to jack Lofton in the face on at least two occasions; I can only imagine how hard it was for Zappa not to ring his fat neck.

I also found the two hosts interesting: the guy representing the left felt the government should not become involved, and the guy representing the right thought they should. Great example of how the typical stereotypes (of lefties being for big gov and righties being against it) aren't exactly correct.
