Government health insurance

as im sure you're all sick of hearing by now, I am going to be a postman starting this saturday.
i get my assignment on thursday, and find out some other stuff too.. I never thought to ask when does the health insurance kick in? im only covered from my job now until may 1st, but ill be gone by then.

anyone know the time frame? google hasn't been a help.
