My thoughts about people who are really allergic to bees are:

Suck it up! It's a bee! Carry an epi pen and walk it off!

Despite all the selfish reasons for not liking bees and the like...

Bees are responsible for 1/4 of the food source in this country...

Save the bees!

They started doing that years ago.

Scientists' deaths are under the microscope. (http://globeandmail.workopolis.com/servlet/News/fasttrack/20020504/UMURDN?section=Science)

Eleven microbiologists mysteriously dead over the span of just five months. Some of them world leaders in developing weapons-grade biological plagues. Others the best in figuring out how to stop millions from dying because of biological weapons. Still others, experts in the theory of bioterrorism.

So I guess we better stop talking shit about sending all those illegal Mexican farm workers back now, shouldn't we? Or are those the jobs that Americans want?

I have seen these report twice, both in the US and now Taiwan. It will be the bees, or lack thereof, which will decimate human life on this planet, not to mention many other life that rely on cross-pollination, including the plants themselves. I hope the scientists/people who argue that our ecosystem is way too tough to be effected by man will enjoy a world without peaches, berries, roses, etc.

This is really something to worry about. No bees, no pollination, no honey.

WHEW!

I thought this was going to be an article about the Robot Revolution! Thank goodness!

But seriously, you are comlpletely right. This bee "plague" could cause BIG problems - the kind that cascade from biological to economic to political, etc.

However, I also think it is going to take a MASSIVE disaster to make humanity re-evaluate how we operate on this planet and that we ar part of the system, not outside or ruling it..

Of course I also thought Ozymandias' plan in "Watchmen" made sense, so there you go.

Bees pollinate. If you consider food important, bees are important. That was one of the original worries with the Africanized killer bees. Would they destroy the friendlier pollinating bees we rely on?

Nobody made a big issue about fire ants in the beginning. And now? You drive down a road in Texas and you see them...mound after mound after mound.
MY WHOLE YARD IS ATE UP WITH THE LITTLE BASTARDS. It's hard to see the smaller mounds. So if you're out there moving the sprinkler, like I was a while back, you may be standing on a mound. Then all the little bastards climb up your leg. And it's not like one will sting you then maybe another. They all sting at the same time. One fire ant bite is nothing. Dozens at a time kinda smarts. You put the insecticide on the mounds, then they just move and make another. And smart little fuckers they are. Most of the bigger mounds they construct against the curb so they have a wall of concrete protecting on one side. The only option is to kill out the whole yard...THEN they become your neighbor's problem. Till he does the same...then back to your yard. I'm considering trading in my dog for an ant-eater at this point.
And doves? What could a dove do to piss you off? How about eating all your dog's food? I put out the food and the dumb mutt sits there watching as his friends, the birds, fly alway with all his food. I open up the blinds to the back porch and dozens of the birds fly away with the high-dollar food I've been buying. The dog yawns. And these birds are healthy motherfuckers. High protein diet you know.
Yeah. Mother Nature. She can be a bitch.

Dang Bubba, if you could just train those doves to eat ants, your dog would be well feed you would save money, the africanized killer bees would be discouraged by seeing their friends the fire ants getting eaten up and they would quit killing the honey bees, and then Fez would have honey to put in his Earl Grey tea and then he probably would not need another stent. I am pretty sure gas prices would go down to $1 a gallon too - which would cause Al Queda to go away. I think I am seeing it all clearly now- GOOD GOD MAN ! THE FATE OF THE FREE WORLD REST ON YOUR DOVES. Get busy man !
