Failure to prepare may mean mankind will have to dig in and fight with improvised weapons and hit-and-run tactics, much the same way Islamic extremists have battled the U.S. military in Iraq, Taylor said.

"You'd have to create an insurgency, a mujahideen-type resistance," Taylor said. "The insurgents know how to win this war against us. It also tells us that if we were attacked by aliens, this is our best defence."

So the insurgents are aliens?

I say we take the Dig Dug approach. We make them chase us through tunnels and then set them up to have boulders fall on them.

If I were 70 or 80, I would totally want an alien invasion. Not now, because I think we would lose, and I can't even imagine what they would do to us. But if I was crazy and 70, I think it would be cool to load up the shotgun, and go out in a blaze of glory.

So in this case, if history has taught us anything, we would win.

If anything from another world has advanced enough technology to even make the trip, then we're screwed. We'll look like Ants to them, and not just coz we're really really far away.

[Re-watched 'Independence Day' a while back. Ouch. Yow. Talk about a film that doesnt age well. This was hyped as bigger then Star Wars? Oofa. Survery Says... Bzzzzzt. Bad Times...]

[Close Encounters got it closest, not racking my brain for another, maybe 'Contact', but again, in both cases, compared to their technology, we just invented the wheel.]

damn you mike the teacher, you took both points i was going to make as soon as i saw the thread title.

if aliens have the technology to go planet by planet looking for destruction, then they are going to have technology which so far out weighs anything we have on earth.

my second idea was just to have will smith hi jack an alien spaceship and destroy the mother ship. problem solved.

but if it's galactus, then we're just screwed...

If I were giving advice to potential Invaders from another world I would advise them to claim that they are Jesus, that at least they wont have to fight the evangelicals(at least in the USA)

It's not like guerilla tactics are anything new - They have been used for hundreds of years.

However, I agree with the idea that we are screwed regardless. Alien tech would completely outclass ours.

Age well? It wasn't good to begin with.

Give me Mars Attacks, where we can save the world with a Slim Whitman record.

Just wait until those bug eyed fucks take off their masks and get a taste of earth oxygen. That'll show 'em. If that doesn't work we'll splash them with water.

Oh you are so right, while I will admit liking it when it was released from an 'ahhhhhh CGI' perspective, people have to remember how hyped this one was: This was It. This was The One. The Sci-Fi film of all Time. Good-Bye Star Wars or whatever movie Hollywood/Movie fans place at the pinnacle of the genre, ID-4 [God I hate that name even] is gonna unseat them all.

That was the hype, that what was promised, and I remember seeing earnest yong lads screaming into cameras about how amazing it was as they left theatres.

After crunching the numbers, they say it is possible that our Milky Way galaxy harbours thousands of intelligent alien species and that there is a "high probability" that one or two of them visit Earth every century.

first, they say there's a high probability we're visited by aliens. then to refute fermi's question as to where the heck these aliens are they contradict themselves.

Taylor and Boan are convinced Fermi got it wrong. Even if aliens used Godlike technology to jump across thousands of light years in a single day, they would still need millions of years to explore all the star systems in the galaxy.

so, to sum it up:
1. aliens visit all the time
2. aliens haven't found us yet

Here is a sighting that just occurred - by a pilot, his passengers and radar.

Probably one of the most legit witnesses I've seen that isn't nuts.

Pilots and aircraft passengers have confirmed sightings of two large Unidentified Flying Objects off the coast of Guernsey. (http://www5.channelonline.tv/news/templates/guernseynews2.aspx?articleid=9013&zoneid=1)

Watch the video (http://cdn.streamcdn.com/cdn.asp?c_id=channeltv&mt=channeltv&fn=ufovt.wmv) - pretty amazing - and the pilot reckons it was a mile long craft he saw.

They're here!

Video taken by a News 10 helicopter in Sacramento, CA.

Case in point: last night while shooting film for the “Friday Night Football segment” (high school football), local news chopper, “Air 10,” of the ABC affiliate, “News 10” (KXTV Channel 10) were surprised to discover that they were sharing their airspace with a “strange set of lights.”

The news station was quick to report the sighting by pilot, Ed Georges” and correspondent Angel Cardenas and the fact that they filmed it, (as well as calls from the general public) as seen above—but so far that’s where it ends!

Kinda funny, but also kinda cruel.

Pupils as young as seven were left traumatised after a school staged a 'War of the Worlds' style production during which a teacher was abducted by aliens. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/5842324/Children-traumatised-by-War-of-Worlds-abduction-of-teacher.html)

The 370 children at Southway Junior School, in Burgess Hill, west Sussex, saw a 'spaceship' crash near their school and then aliens grabbed a member of staff as part of the performance.

The 'alien invasion' show, which was supported by Sussex Police, took place without parents being informed, leaving some furious that they had to comfort their terrified children.

The event was designed to "develop youngsters writing skills" and fire their imagination - but some children were left traumatised by the show.

Southway School admitted that a number of parents complained after their children returned home in a "state of shock".

Youngsters had to be reassured that the abducted member of staff was safe and well after he was carted off by the aliens.

Anyway, it would have been better than a fire drill!
