I was called "ma'am" at the gas station last night and it made me wonder... When are you considered "old"? I am 27 and 28 is only about 9 days away. I am starting to feel "old" the closer I get to 30!!! Is this normal or am I just a spaz?

Its all relative. A ten year-old kid will think a teenager is positively ancient.

If it helps, you're still a fresh-faced kid in the eyes of an old fart such as I.

Spaz!

It May Be Different For A Woman, But Fat's Most Fun And Happiest Years Were Between 35 And 40.

After 40, Things Just Kinda Mellow Out, And You Should Settle Into A Very Comfortable Contentment. Getting Older Is Really Quite An OK Experience, As Long As You Have Good Health And No Money Worries.

Fat Will Tell You This And It Is Completely Honest: Life Is Much Better At Age 56 Than At Age 16!!

I'm a few days from 35 and I FEEL old - much older than I SHOULD feel.

I think it's when you mispronounce the name of a platinum selling recording artist. I had that distinct pleasure a few years back when I bungled the name "Kanye." The "West" part I was somehow able to manage.

around when I turned 26, I held the door for a Mom and her Child, the mom said the Kid, thank the Man.

That made me feel old

26-30 is no mans land

Old people think you are kids

Young people think you are old.

It's not unusual. I'm only 26 and can't believe I'm that close to thirty. I feel like I'm geting old. Of course, it doesn't help that all my friends are in elementary school.

I guess I'll start feeling old if I ever stop getting carded.
Or maybe when 22 year old boys stop flirting with me.

I guess you're considered "old" when you act old, look old or both. Numbers have very little to do with it for the most part. As someone else already said here, it's really a matter of perspective. I remember the first time I was called "Sir" it bothered the piss out of me, but then I realized that the guy saying it was probably around 16. (I think I was 32 at the time.)

Now I'm 43 and everyone just calls me asshole... I'm not sure if that means "old", but it hurts all the same.

eh... don't sweat the "ma'am" thing.
Lil Jimmy Norton called me Ma'am the first time I met him at Bar 9 ... and that was when I was 25. I was none to thrilled at the time. But this year I joked with him about it at the Virus show and he decided I should be called Madame instead. I like that! lol

Age is all in your head. Unless you go tanning too much.... then its all over your body.

In dog years maybe.

I can't partake in another "ma'am" thread again.

Well, I'm 37 and I recently went to my brother's 40th birthday party. I couldn't believe all the fucking grey hairs on all my brother's friends, most of whom I hadn't seen in years. And half my brothers hair is grey too, and he's only a couple years older than me.
So now I start looking REAL close in the mirror, and I can see them coming in on me. Freaky. I might have to stop dating teenagers if this shit keeps up.

Seriously though, I'll steal a line from a Clint Eastwood interview I heard recently.
Clint-"People ask me about aging, and it reminds me of a friend of mine who's in his 80's. He always says to me 'Oh! To be 70 again!', so I guess it's all relative."

Beats the alternative, as they say.

correct as in many cultures it's just common courtesy to call people 'mame' and/or 'sir' and no offense should be taken.
