Fixing broken chain in Toilet (PLUMBING HELP)

So, the handle to the toilet does not flush it anymore.

Inside the tank there is a chain to a circle thing in the bottom of the tank. When you pull the chain, the circle drain thing opens and the toilet flushes. It looks like there was a plastic rod thingee that was attached to the toilet handle but broke.

I know I need to get a new handle (that came off), and a new plastic thingee to attach to the handle, and the chain has a hook on it that should attach to the plastic thingee and VOILA toilet should flush again.

Does anyone know what I'm supposed to get at home depot? What those "thingee" parts are called? The people that work at my home depot are idiots.

I've done it before, but it would be hard for me to explain. You're probably not gonna need more than $20 in parts and it'll take 10 minutes to fix, but hopefully Stugots was able to help you out.

yeah, it is hard to explain via typing, verbal is better. basically, she needs a new flapper, since it comes with the chain and clip to attach it to the handle.

Yeah i just figured it out right after Stugots offered his assistance - I will probably be taking him up on that when I try the install. I have the part # and it is all one piece, the rod thing just broke off of the toilet lever.

Yes, that's the easiet way to explain it, I'm glad you did for her. I doubt the end of the handle that the chain attches to broke, it's usually that shitty little flapper chain.

If the chain broke at the top, you could just hook the top of the now shorter chain up to the handle end again with a paper clip and it'll just pick up the flapper faster than it did before.

Live like white trash, wash your hands in the back of the toilet each time when you have to reach down and grab the flapper and pull it up....just add some soap.........all of your bathroom activities are taken care of at one place!
