The parody song is based on an LA Times article written by David Ehrenstein, a gay, black writer who comments on politics and Hollywood.

I'm still trying to figure out why people hate Rex Grossman for being a white QB, because that made so much sense.

Rush went after Hillary for the same thing: putting on a different accent when talking to black audiences. So is he an anti-white racist too?

Al Gore did the same thing before the NAACP in 2000. You'd think black Democrats would get the patronizing and pandering. Guess not.

As much as i would like to see Rush get fucked up the ass by this, i gotta defend him. its his right to say what he feels, just as it is our right to listen or turn him off. Freedom of speech is for everybody.

fuck it, there's nothing i can say about this that hasn't been said a million times already on this board

Rush Limbaugh is still on the radio? Hmm...you learn something new everyday.

Let me guess his act looks something like this: Republicans are smart, liberals are ruining America. Feminists are scary. The Clintons are satanists.

Ugghh.

Do you consider Limbaugh to be "political talk" or more in the "entertainment" venue?

Fifteen Years Ago: Political Talk...He Had A HUGE Impact On Politics.

Now, Just Weak Entertainment. Fat Can't Even Listen To Him Any More. It's Just That It Is All Played Now...So Played.

I think what we'll all see in the end wasn't so much that outrage over Imus sunk his show; what sunk it was that it happened on a show that so many of the sort of elite, top-line Washington pundits and journalists appear on. It was an embarrassment for them that they couldn't put up with, so they had to throw him under the bus.

Limbaugh, on the other hand, doesn't have anyone on the show who would be embarrassed to be associated with crap like this, so he's safer.

As an aside, I despise any radio talk show, left or right, that's basically one voice the entire time (not counting time with guests or callers). I dislike Rush Limbaugh's show for much the same reason I dislike a show like Jim Rome's, or even Randi Rhodes' -- I don't want to just listen to one dude bloviate for 3 hours.

That's true.

Cheney's not embarrassed by anything.

I do think Limbaugh is a racist, but because he's a professional liar and perveyor of hate for all things not of his political (and social, religious and even racial and ethnic) ideology that it's too hard to separate his racism from all his other isms. So why bother?

However, my knee did jerk when I read this thread and started pouring through the web chatter about it and found that the "Magical Negro" subject is really interesting. (The L.A. Times' collumnist who related the term to Obama is not very interesting or fair but I prefer to treat black criticizms of other black people about their race to be like domestic arguments - I stay the fuck out. And that's what Limbaugh should have done.) So fuck that pill-head Limbaugh. I'm more interested in the "Magical Negro" and what he really means.

So here's the Wikipedia page on "Magical Negro". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_negro)

And some of their examples:

Examples of magical negroes as published by social commentators include:

Noah Cullen (Sidney Poitier) in the film The Defiant Ones (1958)[2][3]

The magical negro is a recurring archetype in novels by author Stephen King:

Dick Hallorann in The Shining (1977), and in both the 1980 film adaptation (Scatman Crothers) or the 1997 TV miniseries (Melvin Van Peebles)[3]

Mother Abigail in The Stand (1978), and the 1994 TV adaptation (Ruby Dee)[3]

John Coffey in The Green Mile (1996), and the 1999 film adaptation (Michael Clarke Duncan)[2][3][6]</ref>

Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) in the film Ghost (1990)[2]

Moses the Clock Man (Bill Cobbs) in the film The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)[2][4]

Cash (Don Cheadle) in the film The Family Man (2000)[2][4][6]

Bagger Vance (Will Smith) in the film The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)[2][3][4][6][9]

And from The Onion's AV Club, a list of "13 Movies featuring magical black men" (http://www.avclub.com/content/node/59258), the discussion at the end of which lists huge numbers of examples of the character.

I wonder, could we even have a discussion about the subject of race in movies without it devolving into a partisan-divided accuse-fest of racism? Or without it devolving into the 1,001st thread about Imus? Or am I just killing this thread with my tedious meanderings on esoteric subjects that everyone else just considers boring shit? We're about to find out.

If that's true then we overthrew a writer of bad romance novels in Baghdad.

yeah, i read the wikipedia article yesterday and half-way thru i thought "hey, just like bagger vance!" and sure enough there it was at the bottom of the list. i just don't know. i'm not a student of film, or steven king, but wouldn't there be an equally long list (at least) of magical honkeys? (some one help me out with some white guys with magical powers who help the main character save the day!) and that onion article gets off track i think, including movies like hitch, big momma 2, the matrix and bruce almighty. hitch and big momma they weren't magical, they were just teaching some things that blacks might stereotypically be associated with. the matrix, they all had magical powers, so pulling one out is like pulling storm out of the x-men movies. and bruce almighty, he was god. god's been in a few flicks, so what if he was black in this one? i don't think the topic's exactly esoteric, but it is interesting.

lol no they aren't. Every now and then you hear about some random bill about "fair air time" for political parties, howeverI think the only people that think there's a conspiracy to get them off the air are the listeners that want to be angry.
