The problem with any protest or movement these days is that they are all driven by bromides, there is no original thought in them, and few understand exactly what they are protesting. Ask 90% of the people holding "No war for Oil" signs why it's an Oil War.

"A bromide is a phrase, or person who uses phrases, which have been used and repeated so many times as to become either insincere in their meaning, or seem like an attempt at trying to explain the obvious."

i don't think it tells you when to laugh or what's funny, but rather it's a sense of community. you're sharing a good time (even though it's a false sharing). this is similar to sharing a laugh with a live studio audience (but less false, since they're actual people).

I couldn't feel any more opposite. I don't need to be told when to laugh.
I agree, but look at the struggle it has taken tv comedies to be able to survive without a laugh track. It's more common now, but when Sports Night came out, the network execs insisted that a laugh track be used.

by comparison, there is way too much laughing on OnA. they laugh excessively at stuff that isn't that funny- which makes something mildly amusing, annoying.
usually it is opie laughing because he has nothing funny to add, but he needs to add to the show and not leave dead air. something is said an he starts forced laughing like he is out of breath (and if he weren't he'd add something.)
