So I finally persuade my boss to let R&F play over the shop speaker system. He understood that naughty words will be flying about but figured, what the hell? It is after all, a body shop and the guys seem to love it. Anyway, yesterday was (I assume) the first time he actually "listened" to the show while it was playing... Keep in mind, this guy does not have a sense of humor at all... Anyway, yesterday Dave starts talking about eating his own "pre-cum" and suddenly I hear silence over the speakers. A few short seconds later and I hear muzak...

I explain to him last night that conversations regarding eating one's own jizz is not an every day occurance and convince him to put it on again today.

Fast forward... There I am in the shop and I hear hear Ron start talking about, "So if you could suck your own dick, would you?" and then silence! Seconds later I hear, "Dave to the office!"

I was laughing so hard I could barely walk. When I got the office and looked over the desks, there was the "big man" staring over the top, only his eyes and forehead were visible... I thought I was going to piss myself. I pulled it together and asked, "Yes, John?" He pulled himself away from his desk and as serious as anyone could ever ask he said, "Is there something you'd like to tell me? What the hell kind of shit are you into?!"

As God is my witness, I thought I was going to die laughing. I had to be excused from the office. And then it hit me, there is no way to explain humor. You either get it or you do not. I told him, after I got it together, that I understand he can't play the show over the shop speakers anymore.

I'm off to buy an Inno.

I talk about listening to the show all the time but no one else at work really seems interested in trying the show out, XM or Free FM. There's one guy at work who had XM already but he's more of an O&A fan. But he did come to me and ask me a lot of questions about the Mikey D Broken Dick show which I was happy to answer and talk about with him.

Seems there's people who dig talk radio and people who just don't. I wish more people dug it and I'll keep bringing up Ron and Fez and O&A to the people I talk with, but most people I know don't listen to any talk radio: comedy, politial or otherwise.

What I got a lot in the beginning was, "Is that guy really gay?" (Being a "body shop", they all like to think of themselves as manly men.) Of course I would turn to them and say, "What the fuck do you care if he's gay? Listen to the fucking show and see if you laugh... If the fact that someone might like dick destroys all hopes of you enjoying yourself, you might as well head to the parking lot and blow your brains out!"

After I verbally beat all of them into submission, they started listening and enjoying... Sometimes people don't know what they want until you tell them what they want.

The problem I find is that most of these people, all of whom I like and get along with, just aren't into the talk radio medium in any way. They're not turned off by Fez's voice or topics discussed, they just don't like talk radio. They don't get why listening to people talk on the radio is entertaining. Maybe they're more visual and enjoy TV, I don't know. But it's not like we're losing them to another show, they just don't listen to any radio shows.

But there is this one guy I work with that really got me pissed.

He was talking about actually starting to like JV & Elvis. When I tried to change the subject to Ron and Fez, who are of course on the same Free FM station just later, he said something to the effect of not liking them because the hosts sounded like "A fag and a wanna be guido."

I coulda throat punched him right there. Unbelivable.

That kind of person deserves to be punched in the throat...or better yet, stick your finger in your ass and wipe it on the mouth piece of his phone....

I do know people like that. I don't get it, but I do know people like that. I just love laughing and figure, if it makes me laugh, I want to listen... I guess there are a lot of people out there that simply do not find that kind humor funny. Oh well, their loss I suppose.

hah!
I just had a meeting with my department head about some random policies and opinions on them and such.

he brought up the XM radios people are listening to online at work and the "questionable material" possibility. I told him that I listen to Ron and Fez and while they occassionally curse (and I turn down the volume), they are not really "objectionable" ... just silly and funny.

Well he then declared that he is an avid Ron and Fez fan and loves their Free FM show!
It was the oddest conversation... my white collar boss going on about my buddays and I think I may have actually earned a few brownie pts in the process! LOL

Sometimes after hours my assistant and I hang and do paperwork. I usually put the free-fm show on and force her to listen. She never expressed and opinion either way, but this week walked into my office said "what is it with this short porch crap". She has turned into a R&F fan and listens to them on the way home (We close at 6) and then finds herself next to the radio till 9 or 6:50 or 7:20....

I can't imagine listening to the show at work. Some people in my department got offended by some very mildly off colour Christmas songs last year so I'd imagine Ron would make them keel over and die.

There's always a moment of terror when I leave and somebody is around my radio when I return. I always think, "Sweet Jesus, I hope Dave isn't talking about jacking off again"

Christ, can I ever relate to this! Before I managed to turn my boss completely against R&F's content, I played it through speakers on top of my tool box. It was like magic... I would be listening for over an hour and there would not be anything said that would cause me concern, but sure as shit the second my boss and a customer would take a stroll through the shop and wind up at my area, I'd hear it... Dave talking about a dog licking something off his balls. Dave fucking a jar of jelly. Soundboard Fez talking about the extra room in his ass for another dick... Etc... I would RUN to the volume control laughing... Anything to try and distract them. I had it playing rather loud one day when a black parts delivery guy walked in my bay door. It was right in the middle of Earl reciting the slang names for black people. And ya know what? You can't explain "Swamp Donkey" to a black parts delivery guy... No sir.

For me, listening in my car IS listening at work. I have to be very careful when I'm in neighborhoods with kids. I always pause it, when I get out of the car to deliver an order. I had a real close call one time. There are these two gay guys who are regular customers. They're good people and tip well. One time, as I pulled up to there place, I noticed they were sitting on the porch. I had my window wide open. I turned the volume down just in time...

I can't remember what the situation on the show was, but someone yelled out "who invited the FAGS!!!"

Fortunately, I turned it down in time, and they didn't hear it.

Oh... and the dick sucking show you were talking about... I turned that down several times at traffic lights the other day.

I often wondered if my co-workers could hear my on-line audio stream so one day when working late and the only one in the office, I turned up my computer speakers to the level I listen on a regular day and walked to each of the other worker's offices to check if they could hear it and was astounded to know that, even at the lowest level, they could hear it loud and clear. No wonder why I get the strange looks in the hallway....keep listening you straight laced stupid jagoffs.
