He fails as a human being. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/25/AR2007042502763_pf.html)

He dug out his five Hickey Freeman suits and found them to be "uncomfortably tight."

The way I see it, it's all his fault because he couldn't stop shoveling food into his pie hole.

Its is pretty sick that this guy was able to take it as far as this. A judge should have thrown this out a while ago, I don't understand how a lost pair of pants entitles him to 65 mil. What an asshole.

It is fucking ridiculous.

What judge can't afford a car? Besides in DC you have the option of Metrobus or Metrorail to get you where you need to go. They also have this thing called "cabs".

Or the lazy sack of shit can get off his ass and, I don't know, walk to another cleaners.

I know that neighborhood and there are plenty of cleaners around.

Not only that, the judge should fine him an amount equal to all the cleaner's expenses and award it to them. But really, a judge with some testicles should have thrown this out years ago.

This guys reminds me of every horrible customer I've ever had in my store. The kind that not only isn't satisfied no matter what you do, but WON'T be satisfied intentionally. They just want to make as big a stink as possible in order to get as much free stuff as they can.

But this fucking asshole turned down $12,000? I think that's MORE than enough compensation for lost pants.

I really hope this gets tossed out and that guy gets counter sued for being a cock smoker.

The trial started today, here (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/offbeat/?hpid=topnews) is a link to a blog on washingtonpost.com about it. There are several blog entries about it, so you have to scroll down to get the first one. No verdict was reached today, but a total of eight witnesses were called (not including the plaintiff). The deliberations ended today with the plaintiff telling his entire life story, and breaking down and requiring a recess when he gets to the part about the pants (I'm not making this up). Its pretty wild that this has gotten to this point. Cross examinations start tomorrow.

I saw an interview (via interpreters) with the defendants. The poor people are about to move out of America, because they're so disillusioned with our legal system. This whole thing stinks.

it's the fault of the justice system as a whole. it's not perfect and could never be. look at the nutty judges they've been reporting in the news. the problem is there are nuts in every profession but the nuts in this profession could ruin your life very easily

somewhat related story - one of my close friends growing up was standing in a drycleaner on pavonia behind St Francis Hospital. a guy came in and was pissed off because the cleaner lost his wife's belt. this guy pushed the register off the counter so the dry cleaner owner pulls his gun, kills the guy and accidentally shoots my friend right through the leg.

recently a 'not-so-close' neighborhood friend began working at my job and he was actually working in the back of the dry cleaner when this happened...

From a washingtonpost.com blog (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/rawfisher/2007/07/the_54_million_pants_suit_that.html):

He's baaaa-ack: Roy Pearson, the D.C. administrative law judge who filed, fought and lost a $54 million lawsuit against the Korean immigrants who own his neighborhood dry cleaners, chose the Fourth of July holiday to make it clear that he will not be going away.

He wrote to defense lawyer Christopher Manning this week to let the Chung family know that Pearson plans to file today a motion arguing that Bartnoff failed to address Pearson's legal claims and asking the judge to reverse her verdict in the case.

What the hell is wrong with this guy..

How many lawyers does it take to roof a house?

Depends on how thin you slice 'em.

A rabbi, a Hindu priest and a lawyer were traveling to Chicago when their car broke down at 1 in the morning. Luckily a farmhouse was near where the car died so they went to see if the farmer had a phone. He did, and since the towtruck couldn't come until morning, the farmer offered them a chance to spend the night at his place. "Problem is" the farmer said, "I only have enough room in the house for two of you. One of you will have to sleep in the barn"
The Rabbi offered to go to the barn, and so they all settled in for the night.
Half hour later he was back at the farmhouse door, knocking. "I can't sleep in the barn. There is a pig in there, and I can't be in the same place with a pig"
So the Hindu priest offered to go to the barn. But half hour later, he was back at the house. "I can't sleep in the same building as a cow" he said. So the lawyer went out to the barn.

Wouldn't you know it, half hour later, another knock on the door. But this time, it was the cow and pig at the door.

I seem to recall that after losing the $54 million case, he appealed. The Koreans went out of business, they just couldn't afford the lawyers.

I wish this guy would go far away with Mike Nifong.

I think I did seen something bad in the Washington Post, though. They are investigating all of his past decisions. Seems he had a history of wacky decisions. Some people may even be getting out of jail.

According to DCist, the family owned three dry cleaners, they closed two of them. Now, whether this is just a sympathy ploy or the 2 dry cleaners were unprofitable because of the case, who knows.

As said, since Pearson had to pay the legal fees, I find it dubious they had to shut it down because of the lawsuit.

Right you are. It's not totally because of financial loses, but it is because of the case.
Donations covered your legal costs. Why did you sell the business?
Some people stopped using our cleaners because of the court case. It was very stressful for the more than two years the case dragged on. It affected us financially, and we couldn't take it anymore.

Yeah, but since he appealed the decision the owners wouldn't see a single dime until the case is finalized. The dirtbag lawyer could drag out the case for years and the poor owners are stuck paying their lawyers. Sure they may eventually be reimbursed, but who knows when that will be? Probably the donations couldn't cover everything.

Plus the 2 posts above me state that the owners had to close due to effects from the case (both PR and financial).
