Tom Poston, the comically gifted actor who played the straight man on "Newhart" and "Mork and Mindy," has died. He was 85.

Tommy Newsom, the former longtime saxophonist for "The Tonight Show" orchestra who regularly subbed for bandleader Doc Severinsen and earned the tongue-in-cheek nickname "Mr. Excitement" as the famously low-key butt of Johnny Carson's jokes, has died. He was 78.

I use to love when Tommy Newsom was filling in for Doc on the Tonight Show, because I knew the laughs would be coming. Johnny had so much fun with him.

And Tom Poston was hysterical on Newhart. I always thought it was nice how he and Suzanne Plachette, after knowing each other for decades, married each other years after their own spouses died.

RIP Tommys.
