Whether you like the article or not, which I personally did not, what are your thoughts on the criticism? The music channels are extremely repetitive from what I've experienced and overall it does seem like satellite is taking on a terrestrial "feel"... Or maybe I just worked too hard today...

i don't have reception problems (except parts of jersey near the airport...i think it's all their radar and shits). most xm channels rarely have dj's at all. odd article.

Lousy reception? I get great reception, way better than I ever did with FM.

it seems like his problem is that he listens to Sirius...his criticisms generally don't apply to XM...I get great reception here in Jersey and as for limited playlists he has to be kidding...for every time satellite plays Hinder's "Lips of an Angel" (once is too much in my opinion) FM plays it 3 times with commercials in between...some of the channels can be repetitive, but it's mostly the Top 40 stuff which isn't why i got satellite in the first place...after almost 3 years listening to satellite radio everytime i get into car that doesn't have it I feel like bashing my head into the dashboard...it just reiterates to me how awful FM has become.

Couple of quotes might help

I listen to just a handful of stations on Sirius
Well that would be why you'd hear alot of the same songs The value of satellite is the added variety of stations available. I don't thing there is an unlimited amount of content in niche music so you will hear rrepetition

Can't they play some of the lesser-known songs by the artists, just for variety?
They have stations for deep tracks XM has deep tracks as a matter of fact.

Most DJs are forgettable, even Octane's Kayla, once the music starts.
So does he want DJs not want DJs who can tell

without the signal cutting out
My experience is that the reception is usually very good minimal drop spots. Compare that to static and drop out on terrestrial radio when your a bit of a distance away You forget how crappy that sound was.

I got my first Sirius satellite receiver only when Howard Stern announced that he was leaving terrestrial radio. Being a fan of his comedy, I was willing to test out what a no-holds-barred Stern could be. For the most part, I find his show to be the one bright spot in what has otherwise become a wasteland reminiscent of ground-based stations.
You dumb Fuck now we understand what a douche bag you are and why. You signed up with the idiot service and now your dissappointed. Swallow your pride and come jump with the team.

I think I liken it to this: The former FM show I listened to for music, where everyone in a group situation could agree on it, was WMMR in Philly. Once a year they have one of those "wacky A to Z" weeks. They proceed to play everything they ever put on the air in alphabetical order. It takes over a week to play them all and they are all songs you know and a lot of the songs you like. (or are simply used to, who knows...) Anyway, when I do play my XM in the shop, I tend to put it on a station that everyone can agree on. It always winds up on "Top Tracks" or something similar. The problem I find with repetition in this sense is that there really are enough "hit" songs out there to quite literally avoid a single repeat for most of a week and I just don't hear XM doing anything near that. The stations are pretty much top 40.

As a side note, the only real reason I bought XM was for Ron & Fez, but the music programming questions seem reasonable to me.

I read somewhere that sirius has those annoying djs commenting between songs. and xm doesnt have that. but the stations on xm do repeat songs like clockwork. my theory is that they are having to pay royalties in a way where it is not economically feasible to have the license of all music all the time. they play a certain playlist for a while, then update it. doesnt matter what station we're talking about. from top 20 on 20 to deep tracks to the hitlist. there are groups of songs that are played repeatedly for a while, then it changes.

what they SHOULD be able to do is play ANY song at ANY time. not this looped playlist crap. xm is at fault just as much as sirius. but i really blame the music industry and riaa. greedy bastards.
