I was wondering if people on the board lean more left or right. This poll is just to get an idea of what people think or believe they are. You have to choose 1 or the other. No Indy or middle of the road. Just pick the side you think is closest to your views; lifestyle and whom you think would make America how you want it to be.

Impossible.

Left or Right would have been a better choice, but that doesn't work either. First, you must say if you are talking fiscally, or socially.

Second (or is it first?) You must understand that neither party stands for much of anything, for which they are historically defined.

Moot... moot.

I've actually come to identify myself more as a democrat than as a liberal now. I define myself as a radical moderate and the Democratic party is much more moderate than much of the left and certainly more moderate than the Republican party. In fact one of the reasons why Gore and Kerry both lost the last elections - that they were too verbose in the campaigns - is exactly what I would ideally look for in a candidate if it weren't in fact an obstacle to winning. The first thing I look for in a candidate is an ability to deal with issues in a complex way. If you can't do that you're not qualified to hold political office in a country of 300,000,000 people and in a world of 6 billion. I think the democrats, when actually in power, think through complex issues and look for solutions while republicans are more prone to pushing ideological views. I'm curious to know if the country were to shift back to being as liberal as they are now conservative and the Republican party became the purveyors of moderate conservatism if I would identify more with the Republican party? It won't happen in my lifetime, but I wonder what I would feel in that situation.

ok lets say left is dem and right is republican either way its the same thing. As for fiscally or socially I stated that as well. I wanted to know overall what you feel your views are. For example Im very liberal socially. I think you should be able to do whatever you want as long as it doesnt directly effect someone elses life or what they want to do. Fiscally I think the govt has a smaller role then the extreme left, but should make the playing field a little more balanced. Either tax the rich a little more, go with a flat tax etc.

So when I said your views, beliefs or who do you think will make the America the way you would like to see it. You have to be able to answer that. THe reason I brushed it with such a broad stroke with only 2 parties is this country for the most part is only a 2 party system. I would love to have an equal 3rd party but it will never happen (atleast for president) anytime soon. So just pick one an get it over with lol. I would bet for the most part if people really had to decide what they really wanted for the most part the Dems offer more.

Think about it, you can be pro life or pro choice. Its your choice, as long as the law is pro choice people that want to be pro life dont have to have abortions, but their views arent forced upon others. If RvW is overturned then everyone is forced into having no choice.

i've seen variants of this before and a large number of folks here are independent (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=53275&highlight=independent) or such.

edit: added link to similar, yet different poll.

Sorry... It's still a flawed poll. As much as I encourage voting, I can't vote in this one.

I'm not a big "Pee in my butt" fan, but it would have been a good choice here.

I hate labels, but the majority of my views fall to the left. I still refuse to pick one side to align myself with.

To quote the great Sir Charles Barkley, "I was a republican, until they lost their minds!"

But now the Democrats are acting like spoiled American Idol contestants living off their 15 minutes of fame.

It's too frustrating to vote for either side right now.

Can't pick either one of those. I'm tired of the whole Republican or Democrat thing. Most of the people don't really agree with either party, yet they still pick them. Shake things up, go for the third party! Anywho, I'm Libertarian, neither left nor right. Think for yourselves.

I've always hated the either/or Democrat/Republican choice, but if I have to I'll gladly vote D.

But your views shouldn't be that simple. Socially? I'm a complete social liberal. Good government can be part of the solution. We should living in a "Great Society" that allows all people an equal opportunity to rise in America. Our school systems should be the finest in the world, our infrastructure should allow for great transportation for business & personal alike and we should have social programs to create a better life for all. We should have equal rights for all. I don't care who you wanna marry whether you are black, white, purple or are a tranny.

As for fiscally, I'm an long-term conservative. Our government has no coherent fiscal policy. We should be fiscally conservative, take care of our budgets and debt load, so that we do have the money to fund the Great Society & create long-term tax relief for individuals. But with our debt load and our government's inability to confront this problem we are a long time from that happening. Tax breaks for corporations are only bankrupting our government more and hamstringing our budgets further.

I'd go on longer, but this is a conversation that is best had at a political rally or over a beer.

Anywho, I'm Libertarian.

Think for yourselves.

So people who label themselves as Democrat or Republican aren't "thinking for themselves," but branding yourself a different political party is?

If they don't agree with everything that their party does, they aren't thinking for themselves but are just going with the name. I went out and found a party that I totally agree with. I even found a potential candidate, but he had to drop cause of the laws made to only allow the Dems and Repubs to win.

I think finding any party that one "totally agrees" with is incredibly rare. Really, you agree with EVERYTHING the Libertarians back?

I'm not voting because I think both parties have a big fat mix of retarded ideas and good ideas. I cannot side with either side for certain. I don't believe in 90% of the bullshit either party shovels. And this poll ignores moderates, libertarians, apathetics, and so on. So yeah. Re-do the poll. Shit ain't black and white, yo.

I think this is the greatest post in this thread.

As for everything else people have written. I think everyone is right (a little). Both parties do suck and no one can agree with everything one party says or does. I think thats what I was going for. We have a shitty 2 party system and the majority of the people dont fit in to any of the 2 major parties. So why cant there be more then 2 idiots running for president? I know there are usually 10 but we only get to see the dems and reps, the other parties have no chance. The only time a 3rd party had a chance was when perot ran and thats b/c he had so much money. I think they need to fix this, we need to have access to all the canidates not just 2 richest parties.

Maybe thisis the reason people dont vote in real elections. They cant identify with just 2 parties. The same way some wont vote on this poll could be the reason many dont want to vote in real life?
