A backpack exploded in a parking garage attached to a Las Vegas hotel early Monday, killing a man who had picked it up and injuring another person, authorities said.


Sorry for being a nervous ned here, but I really hope this is just a freak accident or just an unfortunate murder, because this is one of my biggest fears here in NYC.


Did anyone see 60 Minutes last night? The had a tourist's video of a suicide bomber just strolling into a Bali restaurant a few years ago and it going off. Nightmare.

This is exactly the kind of stuff we have to worry about RE: WMD's - be they explosives or bio-weapons.

It sounds like this might have been an individual murder attempt though. There is barely any info out there yet, but it doesn't sound like a major explosion. According to early reports, there isn't any structural damage and only one casualty - the guy who picked up the backpack.

There's reason for some concern, but not much. In the past 10 years or so, our biggest threat ofbackpack bombs, has been posed by radical Christians... not Muslims.
