First they came for Imus, and I said nothing because Imus wasn't funny
Then they came for the Doghouse, and I said nothing because the Doghouse isn't funny
Then they came for Ron and Fez, and there was no one left to speak for teh funny

The 1 single shit I give is that with a FreeFM lineup shuffle perhaps R&F will move up to afternoon drive, and then somehow make it possible to brodacst the FM show on XM for us stuck in Wisconsin. Someday...

I've never listened to Jv and Elvis, Therefore I can't comment on the quality of the show...
But the fact that they are getting bumped off the air for a stupid bit is outrageous....
The recent attacks on talk radio are the latest hit against our ever eroding right of free speech..
Talk radio hosts are on the air to create a stir... no one would listen to or call a program that was always happy-go-lucky and safe... The job of a talk radio personality is to make us laugh, make us angry, to make us think.....
The firing of Imus, (and apparently JV and Elvis) is a travesty... Everyone on this board is a fan of free talk radio... Ron's jokes or views souldn't be censored...fez's views and joke's shouldn't be censored....The same goes for Imus, JV, and Elvis... I don't wan't the status quo... I don't want the same old crap... I want what america was built on... I want free speech, I want dissenting views....
I also want good comedy and entertainment!!!!

Ron & Fez fans should care. It's irrelevant whether you find a show funny or not. It's a disturbing as fuck trend that minority interest groups who likely don't normally listen to a radio show can dictate to a corporation who should and should not be on the air based on what said group finds offensive. Step out of the retarded radio war trenches.

It all revolves around losing sponsors. Negative publicicty from a minority group = loss of $$. A caller into Cabbie's show today had a good point. Why doesnt the "majority group" meaning the devoted listeners raise a stink and boycot the sponsors? The sponsors would lose more money that way than a complaint from a small minority group who doesnt even listen to the radio shows program.

*DING-DING-DING*
Noble as they are, petitions and rallies don't accomplish squat here. It's all about the moolah. Concerted and widespread public boycotts would really be the most effective tool here...of the stations owned by the companies, TV or radio, and all the sponsors that they have with those outlets.

Instead of petitions, maybe the people who really care about this, should start a list of every advertiser that threatens to pull out when this shit happens. Like Mojo said... concentrate the efforts on sending them the same sort of message that the whinny groups do.
The only problem with this concept is, the majority is never as vocal as the minority. When I say "minority", I don't mean actual minorities. I mean the idiots that get all bent out of shape by meaningless little shit comments that are made by radio hosts.
Remember the old slogan from the 80's... The Moral Majority is neither.
Shit like this will never end, if people don't use the same juvenile tactics that they do. I don't really have any faith in this working. Rational people, as a whole, just aren't willing to put the same amount of effort into anything as uptight crybabies are.

Dude, seriously, getting someone fired over a radio bit may be an overreaction, but I fail to see how any it or how it was done was "irrational."
This kind of mindset is counter-productive. You may disagree with the results, but they didn't do anything wrong in the grand scheme of things. They used the same means available to people who want to organize counter-movements. That's not doing something weird or unusual or irrational.

My point is, it's irrational to try to get people fired for offending you. Yes... everyone else has the same means available, but the offended are the only people willing to put the necessary effort to achieve their goal.
Whenever someone like Imus or JV and Elvis (I think that's their names) gets fired, we hear all these calls for action from "PAC", or whatever. The fact is, the people who see something wrong with "the offended" getting someone fired, never put the same effort into deffending what they see as being right.
It's my opinion that "the offended" are irrational, but I'm actually accusing the "non offended" of not really caring enough to do what it takes to fix what they believe is wrong.

actually papabear- this is the exact theme of the week. We meaning the listeners- tend to just accept and move on. Unfortunately the recent event are racially motivated and we know who the audience of said shows are (majority-white-male) There is a white-male guilt complex that prevents the audience from reacting as we/they will be branded as spreading racial intolerance. Yet we are thick skinned enough to put up with jokes about white sterotypes constantly. Im not trying to sound like the KKK but it seems that all races are starting to pull a race card and soon no stereotypes will be a topic of comedy....including the word cracker or honkey.
Like Ron said on tonights show- I know it was in jest but it may come to..."CBS says we can no longer use verbs"

I'm a day behind on the XM show, and have don't get to hear the FM show much, but that's pretty much what I figured. The "white guilt" issue is really what I think is the most to blame here. White Guilt is actually leads to racist thought. "White guilt" is actually white people thinking that minorities aren't intelligent enough to recognize the difference between stereotypes and racism. Stereotypes aren't necessarily wrong.
I just keep thinking about when the whole issue of "sports team names being offensive to aboriginal Americans" thing started heating up. I was living in Cherokee country in NC. All these white people were on TV complaining about the Redskins... I knew a LOT of Cherokee down there. They all loved the Redskins. Not a single one complained about the team name.
The only team name they ever stood up against was a high school team. The actual team mascot was something like "Indians" or "Warriors". I'm not exactly sure. Their problem was with what the school called the girls team. They called them the "Squaws". Squaw was a very offensive term. Most people weren't aware of it. When they were made aware, they changed the name. The Cherokee were happy... the whites were happy. Life moved on, and we all sat together to watch the Redskins lose on a weekly basis.
and I ramble... good day.

The real issue now isnt the whiny complainers or white guilt or anything like that, its corporate interest. The people who complain are, and always have been, the most vocal. THats not irrational, if something pisses me off, i'm going to try and take it down. But once upon a time, when a radio station was just a radio station, they werent going to kick off a show that was getting good ratings, because of some complaints, because that was there bread and butter. But now, when a radio station is actually just a very low rung on a huge corporate ladder, no show, no matter how popular, is worth shit to them. Viacom doesnt give a fuck how much money JV and Elvis, or Opie and Anthony, or Ron and Fez make them, because it pales in comparison to almost any other avenue of there business. Radio to a corporationg is just there for a certain level of PR and modest streams of income. Thus, these corporations dont have the time to wait out protests and boycotts that may hurt thier core businesses, they will just send the offending shows packing without a second thought.
When Radio Stations were just Radio stations, They stood up for thier big shows, because that was what made them the money. Now that radio stations are corporate pawns, no matter how big the show, its a drop in the bucket to them, and they arent willing to risk that bucket being tipped over. The solution? get the radio stations back in the hands of the radio stations. How? Pretty much impossible at this point, unless Ronfez.net wants to take up a collection to get a FCC license and get to broadcast? Who's good with business???

While I think there's definitely a middle ground when it comes to these kind of names (the Braves, Seminoles, etc.), it shouldn't be surprising when people in certain groups object to names like the "Redmen" or the "Redskins." I mean, come on, that's not too hard to grasp as to why that would be offensive...hell, it boggles my mind that this is still an MLB logo in the 21st Century:

I don't agree with the idea that anything Indian or Native American is offensive, but it is pretty easy to see why SOME of it is just ridiculous.

plus you have to look at it in context
we are using them as team names that people root for and love, there's no ill will, nothing rascist about, basically we are in a way honoring them
and most of the tribes have come out in defense for the teams so if they are ok with it then why is there still an issue ??

Because there is a line. I'm just sayng that enough people complain about something like the Indians' logo or the Redskins' name, it shouldn't be surprising. If most people are fine with it, hey, great, go for it. But, like I said, if enough people are bothered by it, please don't act surprised or hurt or shocked or whatever that a name like, say, "the Redskins" is going to really offend a lot of people.
While the overall context is positive, yes, they really do represent times in this country when we were, quite frankly, much more stupid and insensitive over racial issues. While I don't think still having them is the end of the world, it shouldn't be a huge deal if we ultimately end up showing that we have progressed socially.

I think if JV and Elvis were model employees, they could have ridden the storm out, but with the personal problems of one of them, it might have something to do with it. Just speculation on my part, nothing more. You can't fire someone for having a drug problem without sending them to rehab, etc. first, but if they have personal issues and then there's something job related, then you can fire them.

Asian slurs end shock jocks' show on CBS
By LARRY McSHANE, Associated Press Writer 27 minutes ago
One month after CBS Radio fired radio host Don Imus, it has permanently pulled the plug on a pair of suspended New York shock jocks for a prank phone call rife with offensive Asian stereotypes.
"The Dog House with JV and Elvis," hosted by Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay, "will no longer be broadcast," CBS Radio spokeswoman Karen Mateo said Saturday.
The cancellation of the show on WFNY-FM, nearly three weeks after the hosts were suspended, was another indication of the increased scrutiny on radio hosts and the heightened management sensitivity to complaints in the wake of the Imus firing.
CBS Radio dismissed Imus in April for his racist and sexist remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
Vandergrift and Lay broadcast a call to a Chinese restaurant in which the caller, in an exaggerated accent, placed an order for "shrimp flied lice," claimed he was a student of kung fu, and compared menu items to employees' body parts.
The initial airing of the call went unnoticed, but a rebroadcast after Imus's firing prompted an outcry from Asian-American groups. Vandergrift and Lay were initially suspended without pay, but Asian-Americans quickly demanded the same penalty applied to the much higher-profile Imus.
"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.
Mateo would not comment on the status of the DJs' contracts or whether they were still on the CBS payroll.
Imus plans a $120 million breach of contract suit against CBS Radio.

I only started listening to them like a week before they got in trouble.
They weren't that bad and i wish I'd have heard more.
It really is crazy though.
If all of this is offensive shouldnt any corporation that records and distributes the " offensive " material be held accountable ?
So whatever company procuded and distributed, let's say the Jerky Boys cd's for example, be in trouble ?
Also shouldn't the stores that carried these records be in hot water ?
Why is it different ?
if audio material is offensive live why is it less offensive otherwise ?
And the thing that bothers me most, and I'm sure it's been covered a million times since the Imus thing, is that I dont like that people who arent even the intended audience, and who would never be the intended audience, get to have a say in what any other group listens to.

This is getting insane. Now FreeFm has empty slots from 9a-12p and 9p-12a. Given that and the possibility of O&A going down they may turn their backs on the talk format completely, which will again leave R&F without a commercial outlet... JUST WHEN THEY WERE GETTING A DECENT AUDIENCE!!! Once again CBS should be ashamed of themselves! Did any advertisers even leave or threaten to leave JV & Elvis' show? I didn't hear of any... except possibly Ching Chow frozen entrees....(I'm deeply sorry that I said that).
AND WHY IS THAT FAT PIG ROSIE O'DONNELL STILL ON THE AIR??!?! HER CHINESE SLANG REMARKS WERE FAR WORSE THAN THAT HACKY BIT JV & ELVIS DID!!!!

At this point you have to wonder why anyone would want to work for CBS radio. Anyone who signs with them from this point out has no excuse. They've proven they have negative loyalty.
The problem is that only four companies own 90% of the radio around and it's only getting worse. Thanks Regan! Thanks for breaking up all those lousy anti-monopoly laws especially those involving the airwaves and media. I for one hated all those choices in music and ideas!

FUCK YOU, Jeanette Wang, for thinking that you speak for the entire Asian community!
I am soooooooooo pissed off! As someone of East Asian descent, who listened to JV and Elvis avidly, I can safely say that the outdated and hypersensitive views of people like Jeanette Wang is merely a sign of their age and generation. Old hacks like her simply don't understand 21st century pop culture. And I bet this self-serving bitch is as racist as she claims JV and Elvis to be (even though we all know those two are not...). I bet she had zero objection to Don Imus calling the Rutgers girls the word "nappy." The truly sad thing is, that while JV and Elvis were simply playing on racial stereotypes for a joke, Jeanette Wang probably means it when she describes black people as the N word at her dinner table.
Please, boys, go to XM (although that's obviously not safe anymore, either).
P.S. please fire Leslie Gold and her entire show, too, while you're at it, CBS...and replace her with CT & Jivin!!!

Friday night on his Fox News television show, "Hannity & Colmbs" Sean Hannity reported that New York DJs JV & Elvis had been officially terminated by CBS Radio at approximatly 8:00 P.M. EST. This report is unconfirmed as of yet. More information will follow.
J.V. and Elvis were suspended without pay earlier this month for a replayed segment in which one of the DJs used a fake Asian Accent and placed a prank call to a chineese resturaunt.
NY Times Reports: Sponsor Pulls Out of Opie &Anthony and Nick DePaolo Show
Almost two weeks after CBS Radio fired Don Imus for his racially and sexually demeaning remarks about the Rutgers women’s basketball team, Nick Di Paolo opened his talk show on another CBS station in New York by mocking a manual that, he said, one of his bosses had given him that morning.
The booklet was entitled “Words Hurt and Harm” and, as described by Mr. Di Paolo, it urged him and his brethren to avoid the sort of stereotypes that had not only upended Mr. Imus but had also just gotten two colleagues on WFNY (92.3 FM) suspended for broadcasting a six-minute prank call littered with slurs to a Chinese restaurant.
“Right away, we’re starting with a false premise,” Mr. Di Paolo told his listeners on April 25, just after noon. “Because words don’t hurt.”
He then proceeded to refer to someone in the studio who was apparently of Colombian descent as “a drug dealer,” before using an exercise in the manual as a springboard to the following observations: that “enough” Native Americans drank to make them fair game for a joke; that waiters in Chinese restaurants were “efficient” and “better than most, you know, other ethnic groups as waiters and waitresses”; and that Jewish mothers were “bad cooks and a little hairy.”
The part of the radio spectrum where Mr. Di Paolo holds forth each day — shows in which commentary and entertainment fuse, sometimes under the rubric of a morning or afternoon “zoo” — remains as arguably and insidiously untamed in the days after Mr. Imus’s collapse as it was before, based on a New York Times screening of nearly 250 hours of shock-talk radio broadcast over the last week.
Gay men and lesbians, and women and Muslims, among others, were frequent targets of ridicule; coarse, sexually explicit banter, particularly descriptions of anal and oral sex, proliferated, much of it reminiscent of the routines that once drew Howard Stern heavy penalties; and meanness appeared to be a job prerequisite, whether a host was belittling someone who called in or the unwitting subject of a prank call.
In a sense, the hosts of these shows are juggling live grenades each day, putting the companies that broadcast and sponsor them at the greatest risk of collateral damage, particularly as the smoke clears from the Imus affair.
After being told of Mr. Di Paolo’s comments, for example, officials of the New York State Lottery said they had decided to discontinue all advertising on his show. They also said they would no longer sponsor “Opie and Anthony,” a morning show on the same station, after being apprised of a line uttered by a comedian who is a regular guest. “Would it be possible, could you whistle ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ while I rape a girl?” the comedian had asked another guest, a professional whistler, in an old interview replayed on April 25.
All told, The Times listened to a dozen prominent shows on so-called terrestrial radio for five weekdays in a row. Some, like “Mancow’s Morning Madhouse,” out of Chicago, and “El Vacilón de la Mañana,” a Spanish-language program originating in New York, draw tens of thousands of listeners each day on multiple stations across the country. Others tend to reach a more regional audience, including “The Jersey Guys,” an afternoon talk show that is among the most popular in New Jersey, and “Steve and D.C.,” which has similar reach in St. Louis.
In one respect, Mr. Imus and the hole he dug for himself were unique: a nationally syndicated radio host who interviewed the powerful used his bully pulpit, not just on radio but also on a cable news network, to make a racially charged aside about largely defenseless victims.
And yet, in the weeks after his firing, the nation’s AM and FM airwaves have continued to crackle with the kind of crude remarks, off-color bits and unfiltered rage that might well run afoul of the standards that Mr. Imus was said by his employers, and critics, to have violated.
One morning late last month, for example, Mancow, the syndicated talk show host whose real name is Erich Muller and whose audience was estimated at 1.5 million by Talkers magazine as recently as last fall, could be heard dismissing a caller as a “brain-dead fetus” and a “late-term abortion that somehow crawled out of the Dumpster” after the man’s phone connection gave out.
Mr. Muller — whose show is heard prominently on AM talk radio in South Florida (the station call letters are WMEN, a nod to its format), as well as in Houston, Indianapolis and San Francisco — also suggested on the same broadcast that “radical Muslims” would not stop until they had flattened American religion like a steamroller.
I'm really just sick of this fucking bullshit. I am so sick of this "Soccer Mom Society"

I guess I'm seeing what Imus did and what JV & Elvis did as 2 different things.
While I don't believe that either should've been fired I can more see how what Imus said was more personal, although I dont believe he meant it that way by any means, because it referenced a distinct group ( Rutgers women's basketball ).
The JV & Elvis bit was a mock-Asian bit that's been used for years by hundreds of comedians, tv shows and movies.
You could argue it was " aimed " at a particular race but isnt all humor aimed at somebody in one way or another ?

I'm a fan of both the Dog House and JV and Elvis. I can't stand it. I really can't stand it. Tom Chiasano (if that's how you spell his name) is a spineless pussbag of shit. If he had any balls, he'd tell those people that have nothing better to do than bitch to go to hell. Rush Limbaugh gets away with everything because Clear Channel has big shiny balls.
What really boggles my mind is that the station is trying to clean up it's act so called "racey" programming, yet they have strip and gentleman's clubs as sponsors. I'm fucking livid about this because this is complete bullshit. Fucking hypocrites is what CBS is.
I can't stand this Soccer Mom Society. Allow me to Clarify.
Soccer Mom Society, meaning a place where everything is cute and non offensive. Where entertainment is dumbed down to the level of a 4 year old. It's already happening. Just look at the sh*t that is on TV. It's kid friendly for even 9pm at night. It's also happening on the airwaves. Take a look at what happened to XM recently. XM radio, I.E. a service you pay for. What's next, getting rid of playboy TV?
I like my offensive material. It's funny. If you don't like, either ignore it or change the channel.
Thanks to "sensative people", the entertainment industry is ruined. Even satellite radio is getting yelled at by people who have nothing better to do but bitch and make the populations life a living hell. When all is quiet and peaceful, these douchebags come out of the woodwork, and rabble rouse housewives, activist groups, and uneducated minorities.
This soccer mom mentality Disneyfies everything, making media and art cute and 50's era funny. However, the soccer mom infection does not hit entertainment. It also hits stores, resturants, libraries, schools, etc, etc, etc,. A Soccer Mom thought up American Idol.
Dear minivan driving mothers of the world,
The world does not revolve around you, your "special" kid, van, or schedule. I say special because only you think it is. Your kid is probably a dumbass, but it's mommies little angel to you. Although, deep down it's mommies broken condom. Just because you have a kid, doesn't mean you have to make our lives suck.
If you don't like something, ignore it. If you don't like what your hearing, change the channel or turn it off. Thanks to you, Imus, JV and Elvis, and possibly other acts in entertainment will be destroyed because you didn't like something.
Anybody else agree with me on this?

I agree! Alright, I'm a mother or 2 boys (ages 1&3). I listen to O&A and R&F. sometimes even JV & Elvis, although I'm not particularly a fan. I also wasnt a fan of IMUS, but all of this is wrong. If I dont want my kids to hear it, I turn the channel and listen to it when they are not around. Its BS. This whole topic of regulating our speech in a free speech society pisses me off. We can't listen to some guy say nappy headed hos, or some prank calls, or a homeless man talking on a subscription only radio channel - but we can watch crazy people wave guns and see bloodied bodies on a regular basis on the news.
I've had enough.
