Are you guys kidding me? In the year 2007 you want a song that mentions God to be the National Anthem? What are you, some kind of right-wing, bible-thumping wackos???
I agree with Reeshy. "America The Beautiful" should be the anthem.

I'm in total agreement... I always thought America The Beautiful would make a better National Anthem. It's a little easier to sing too!

I like God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood.
That being said, it's hard to top Marvin Gaye's rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at the '83 NBA All-Star game.

After being FORCED to sing that in boot camp, I could never like that song (not that I would like it to begin with).
I would agree with "America the Beautiful", but I think Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" is better.

Only if when the anthem is played, they play the Ray Charles version.
In terms of songs, I like America The Beautiful better than The Star Spangled Banner, but I stand by SSB being the national athem. I don't know if it's because of tradition, or just for the simple thought that, yes, our national anthem isn't easy to sing or memorize, but if you really love the country, you know the words and can sing the song to the best of your ability. God Bless America and America The Beautiful are easy songs.

Here's an excerpt from Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions that I really like.
There were one quadrillion nations in the Universe, but the nation Dwayne Hoover
and Kilgore Trout belonged to was the only one with a national anthem which was
gibberish sprinkled with question marks.
Here is what their flag looked like:

How about that rap gem "F**k the President?" Was that 2 Live Crew? I think that'd be a great anthem.
"F**k the mother f**kin' president
F**k the mother f**kin' president
F**k the mother f**kin' president
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, we don't give a f**k!"
I think they just repeated that for 3 or 4 minutes.
Sounds like a winner.
