Seems like I am outside of the R&F demo, but damn does the south not getting any choices when it comes to comedy talk radio. It's all a bunch of redneck Nascar crap like Rick and Bubba and John Boy and Billy.

Any other southerners out there? If there are enough of us, I think I can't get Ron to stop calling us hayseeds...

I'm originally from Kentucky. Sorry, dude, as long as Southerners keep doing stupid stuff, we'll always be hayseeds. It's funnier that way, and if anyone can take it, we Southerners can. I think it keeps the universe in balance.

I lived in Tampa during the Ron & Ron years and listened to them every morning until September 1997 when that show ended.
I listened online during the WNEW and WJFK era and became an XM subscriber a couple days before they joined.
Now I live in Louisville, KY and listen to both the XM and FM shows every day.

This thread brings back memories!

I haven't heard Rick and Bubba in years. God, they were a special kind of suck.

I think my dad still listens to John Boy and Billy. They were all right from what I remember. Robert D. Raiford was pretty cool I think. He was always pissed off.

I was born in VA, live there now, but I don't consider myself a southerner. I don't really know where I fit in.

Used to listen to John Boy and Billy for a few months on my shower radio and 5 min drive to work before I had XM. They were ok, but I was only half awake. Robert D. Raiford was the definition of cantankerous old man.

Just accept it, you're a southerner!! Actually, I think the fact that you're a military kid saved you from picking up somewhat of an accent, like I've been told I have. I don't really hear it, but my Baltimore native girlfriend swears I have one.

I'm almost in the same boat. I used to watch Ronnie drive past my office in his yellow Jaguar every day after his shift at WSUN. When they got canned I kinda went into limbo until 1010 AM picked up Ronandfez.com. When 1010 died, I didn't know what happened to them until I heard about the XM move. I picked up an XM immediately after that.

I still live in Tampa, and the terrestrial radio landscape around here is beyond terrible. At least there's NPR

I'm from a lil town outside of Macon, Georgia called Lizella (pronounced Lie-Zella). I never heard of Ron Bennington until the Monsters of the Midday along with RealRadio and Bubba the Love Sponge came to RealRadio 96.5. One of the very first shows I heard was where the Monsters had Ron and the show members come in and talk about the old times. 2 years later after becoming a huge Monster fan, they left the airwaves here but they are on Extreme 152 so I got XM the next day so I could continue to listen to them. Not much longer after that is when O&A came and then I became a fan of them after ClearChannel muffled the Monsters. Ron and Fez always reminded me of Florida radio.....it had the same feel like the RealRadio shows....so it was a natural fit and I love it more and more everyday.

Also...the Monster Webboard use to be just like this one...all the people were big fans, hung out with one another and had a lot of fun.

p.s. - why is it when i go back and read my story, i hate it and wanna delete it?

I suck at telling stories!!!

ScottfromGA-my story exactly. Lived in Macon until 4 years ago, Al now. Used to love the Monsters, bought XM just to hear them. After discovering O and A and R and F, the Monsters seem like amateur hacks. Not to mention almost every sentence of of Russ's mouth is a commercial for something or another. In fact the show has become nothing but a running commercial for whatever promotion they have upcoming.I turned them off a year ago and do not miss them at all. Even on the website, where Russ posts, there is web addresses and phone numbers for every one of his latest ventures, like working out or remodeling his house. Too commercial for my tastes.

I'm here for ya budday! I live in Augusta Georgia and have absolutely nothing to listen to. R&F and O&A were the best things that happened to me when I got XM. I am currently without XM in protest of what happened to ONA but I still get my fill of R&F from my audible subscription.

I haven't heard Rick and Bubba in years. God, they were a special kind of suck.

I think my dad still listens to John Boy and Billy. They were all right from what I remember. Robert D. Raiford was pretty cool I think. He was always pissed off.

Your memory must be failing you, or your tastes have changed alot. I turned on JB&B show the 2nd day of Earl's best of fuckup -replay 7 of the day before, and honestly about threw up. "a special kind of suck" doesn't really discribe it. Give me "shock-jockery, or give me ipod!

Yeah, they are Hee Haw radio. Although I'm really going by their TV commercials on that, I haven't listened to the show since 1992. One of the reasons I got XM was so I wouldn't have to hear their dumbass cackling as I was searching through the dial.

Any other southerners out there? If there are enough of us, I think I can't get Ron to stop calling us hayseeds...

I'm a southerner too....Southern Canada though. You're not all hayseeds, and we aren't all a bunch of beer drinking hockey players (although I used to drink beer and still play hockey, just like almost everyone I know....ok bad example.)

It seems Ron really takes a lot of bites out of the south. To us non-hayseeds, we find it hilarious. In fact, Ron and Fez (and to a greater extent Opie and Anthony) bust on Canadians from time to time. I take it as a compliment. We just let it roll off our backs. Fez is a Southerner himself...albeit a convert to the northern ideas...except when drunk and discussing race issues (great gag).

My advice, take it as a fun poke at your stereotypes! You might not eat sowbelly and grits every morning, but I bet one of your neighbors does!

Ya'll have a nice day.

""I'm from a lil town outside of Macon, Georgia called Lizella (pronounced Lie-Zella). Ron and Fez always reminded me of Florida radio.....it had the same feel like the RealRadio shows....so it was a natural fit and I love it more and more everyday.""

I still listen to show the when Russ is on one of his million vacations. The "Dirty Jim Hosts" shows are so much smoother and compelling. DJ doesn't constantly namedrop and talk about how much he can benchpress. For the love of God, he doesn't talk about his wife every 3 minutes......

But all in all, I'd still go to a MONSTER concert anyday of the week...that shit is FUN.
