F_S Has A Dislike Of The 70's-Early 80's Groups That Had Lead Singers With Either High Or Raspy Or Odd Voices, Or All Of The Above. Like The Annoying Steve Perry Of Journey, Or Michael McDonald Of The Doobie Brothers.

The One Group Whose Music He Liked Was Yes, Except That Jon Anderson's Voice Ruined Otherwise Great Music. Imagine If Owner Of A Lonely Heart Had Been Sung By Freddy Mercury Instead; It Would Have Been A Masterpiece.

On The Other Side, Karen Carpenter Had The Most Beautiful Voice Of That Time, And Yet The Carpenters Songs Are So Crappy As To Be Unlistenable.

What Singers Either Ruined Their Group's Songs (Like Anderson), Or Were Way Too Good For Their Songs (Like Karen Carpenter)?

Man, Fat Forgot All About Her. Her Voice Is Spectacular. Good Choice AJ !

PS: Fat Enjoyed How As She Got Fatter And Fatter, The Heart Videos Would Show Only Her Face In Close-Ups, And Never Her Body. The Sister Got Nothing But Full Body Shots.

Always thought that Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 had a voice better than his lyrics. I also thought that a lot of Iron Maiden's lyrics weren't on the same level as Bruce Dickenson's voice.

I know that I'm not gonna be popular with this one, but Fat, how can you say that Steve Perry didn't have a great voice? And I'm a fan of the Doobies and I thought that Michael McDonald brought a whole different style to their music. Not better or worse, just different.

Tupper, When It Comes To Questions Of Taste, There Are No Right Or Wrong Answers. TO F_S, Steve Perry's Voice Is Like Fingernails On A Blackboard, And McDonald Is Too, What's The Right Word....Gimmicky? Or Contrived?

But It's All Just A Matter Of Personal Taste/Preference!

I hear ya. Fair enough

I do agree with the later Michael McDonald songs (like Yamo Be There) as being very "Gimmicky"

I think Jay Farrar is a better singer than Jeff Tweedy, but I think Wilco is a better band than Son Volt. I like both a lot though.

I miss Uncle Tupelo.

In my opinion, Dave Grohl has put together a VERY impressive career. The very fact that many people feel the way you do Dr. Joek, is a testament to the caliber of Grohl's post-Nirvana work.

There are two singers that I have opinions on:

There are some days I think that Caleb Followill's voice doesn't fit the Kings of Leon's music, yet other days that I think it fits perfectly.

Also I used to think that Wayne Coyne's voice was too good for the Flaming Lips, now that the band has become really trippy I think it's perfect.

Love Cradle of Filth but I agree with Doug, Dani Filth's voice gets annoying about half way through listening to one of their albums.

The one band that I think sucks and has no substance is Evanescence but their singer, Amy Lee, has a very strong voice.

No big deal. The cool thing about technology is that a guy like Fat Sunny can download a couple of songs or catch a couple of videos on You Tube to catch up anytime he wants.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but Roger Daltrey's voice makes my skin crawl. If they had a half decent singer I'd probably be a Who fan.

Dude, Fat Said He Loved Her Voice, But That Their Songs Were Unlistenable! Sorry, Telecaster, That's The Way Fat Feels, Although "Superstar" Is Tolerable, But Only Because Karen Sings It. If It Had Been Helen Reddy Or Someone Else Of That Time, It Would Be Just Another Crappy Song.

And JZ, Fat Hates To Break It To You But Your Mom Is Only 4 Years Older Than Fat; It Wouldn't Be Unusual If We Liked Some Of The Same Music, Son!

As For The Who, Fat Always Liked Roger Daltry, But Had A Gvac-Like Feeling About Robert Plant And Led Zep. F_S Has Always Wished That Led Zeppelin Had Had A More Top-Flight Lead Singer.

If he had always sung the way he sings now it would have been better overall.

But I'm so used to the old squeaky Geddy I can't imagine them with a different singer.

Exactly. Overall, I like Geddy's voice now over the past. I was listening to the first few RUSH albums the other day, and forgot how high Geddy's voice was! Much better now.

As for Roger Daltrey, it depends on what era of The WHO you're talking about.
In the '60's, he had a higher, "pop" voice.
In the '70's, he had a lower, more booming voice.
In the '80's, he had a combination of the 2.
Recently, he has a lower, more raspy voice. Mainly because he's now in his 60's.

For me, I love Rage Against The Machine musically, but Zac's voice is very annoying. Too much attitude.

Interesting as I think Chris Cornell has a great voice, but it doesn't fit that band at all, whereas Zac fits that band perfectly.

Oh well, opinions...we've all got one.
