With multiple shows, numerous messageboards, inside jokes, call backs, obscure pop culture references, how much of the Ron & Fez Show do you get?

Up until the recent influx of Pal Talk refrences I thought I always got the show

I get a bit lost with the Pal Talk too.

I'd say at least 3/4ths. I listen to XM everyday, I'm on here everyday, and I catch the FM show a few times a week. I've never been able to get into the pal talk stuff, and I do miss the FM show more than I'd like to.

I've only been listening for about 20 months now, so I don't get all the references about people on this board. Plus, I don't follow any sports, so when that becomes the subject I sit and listen like a child being lectured to. It's all entertaining though, they still bring a lot of the rest of the show into their sports talk.

a lot of the interviews will leave me scratching my head. as will a lot of ron and earl talking aboot music. i do find it interesting tho that ron will rail earl on music and not being hip or edgy, then the one time earl brought up ny hardcore, ron ridiculed it mercilessly.

I get just about everything, except the (increasingly frequent) Pal Talk references. I could care less what HTG is eating or Frenchie is doing with her ass. Oh, and I'm not a huge sportsfan, but I'll listen and try and learn a thing or two.

I'm online with everything but the PalTalk stuff. I'm like Celery & dont' care what HTG is eating for lunch.

i put between 70-80 though it might be more. i never really listened to classic rock besides the radio hits so i don't really know to much when they are talking about that. i don't know much about about 70's movies that they reference a lot either. sopranos and lost talk is completely lost on me cause i don't watch either show. i feel i get the show's humor but not some of the specific references some times. but that's what the board is for right? finding the shit you don't know...

Yeah the amount of time [a lot] given to a subject that very very few will get [Paltalk] will leave the vast majority of people scratching their heads. Now, Ronnie leaving heads scratching is a very very good thing indeed, if it's to make ya think. Paltalk does the opposite. It's a video wasteland. Possibly the worst waste of time and energy ever. And thats from someone approaching a decade on it.

Good or bad? Beats me, I just know Gina Gershon is Evil.

I like when Ron drops names from the Florida days. It makes me shake cobwebs out of my head. Speaking of name dropping, I love Gina Gershon.

I've been a fan for seven years and I still don't know what the fuck the show's about.

All I know is that it's got a good beat and I can dance to it.

i'm going to echo the whole Pal talk issue. In the past, listners also came into the studio and contributed, but pal talk is more a stick in the spokes of the show.

I also don't get the wrestling, but I enjoy hearing how much useless stuff Fez (and Ron) know about it.

since i started listening when they started on XM there is a lot from there past I am unfamiliar with. I get most of the pop culture, sports and political talk. If i had trouble following along I wouldn't be as addicted as I am.

I get like 80-90% of the show. I understand the paltalk references but dont understand why they are made every show without fail. I feel with paltalk being mentioned so much Board Gossip has really become obsolete.

The Paltalk stuff is bothering me more and more every day. I feel like these girls are cam-whoring for attention, hoping to get mentioned on the air, and Ron plays into it like a rube. It especially annoys me when Ron breaks into an entertaining rant, then stops in the middle to say "oh, take a look at that belly button shot." It would be one thing if these hot girls were in studio, because it's usually entertaining to hear them playing off the producers and the other folks around. But, they're not and it's not.

Kill the Paltalk, Ronnie B.

Celery, with no disrespect intended, I think you're falling into the trap that many of us have before, something that I call the Mike and the Mad Dog syndrome. This is where you are such a big fan of something and you watch/listen to so much of it that you start to fancy yourself something of an expert and start second guessing the pros. Now, Mr. Francesa and his partner have made themselves millionaires with their inane restating of the obvious, but it isn't usually a useful exercise telling the pros (coaches for them, radio geniuses for us) how to do their jobs.

I suspect, the Paltalk thing is a big part of the show because Ron hasn't had a Fez working at full capacity for awhile and Earl, Dave and the rest of the Crew (and don't get me wrong, I love them all) just can't keep up with Ron's flow so he has to start using some gimmicks, like flirting with the PalTalk harem. I think if you listen to the show closely you'll find Ron doesn't throw in the PalTalk references randomly but drops them in just before a line of banter is going to go dead (Earl) or seriously off the rails into Crazytown (Dave). Like a chess grandmaster, he's always thinking a few moves ahead.

Of course I could be talking out of my ass here, and Ron flirts with the hot chicks just because he needs these things, Eddie Israel style. And even if that is the case, I figure who am I to tell him he can't.

And I second Hottub's bemusement with the wrestling and comic book references. Sorry, Fezzie.

I don't have paltalk, but after a while, it's pretty easy to figure out what the reference are. I don't know why people don't like it. I think it's funny as shit sometimes.

Fair enough - we'll see if the Paltalk references slow down now that Fezzie's back. I don't really have a problem with Ron using a crutch - a catch phrase or one-liner serves the same purpose ("I got two radio shows"). My problem is that the attention-seeking Paltalk girls are derailing the show by shaking their asses to the point where Ron has to talk about it. It might just more of a pet peeve than a criticism of Ron's style or comedic timing.

5 years ago it was the same thing with people IM'ing and instant feedbacking during the show. everyone complained and hated it.

It's hard to believe anyone complained about the IMs/Feedback. To me, an IM is just as expressive as a phone call and infinitely more useful to a talk radio show than a flashed body part over a webcam. It also takes a lot more talent to come up with something worth bringing up on the air.

I heard Ron say recently that they stopped the IMs because Fez asked him to. I'm wondering if the same thing will happen with Paltalk.
