This Sunday on HBO..... (http://www.hbo.com/films/burymyheart/)

I remember reading the book as a kid and just being mesmerized by how great it was. I haven't read it in a very long time though, so I wonder if I would get a different perspective now.

Anyway, the movie starts just after Little Big Horn and progresses from there through the Ghost Dance stuff and things of that nature. Movies like this are ALWAYS difficult to pull off in my opinion, because its such a controversial topic. There's a really fine line between being too sympathetic towards the Indians (to the point where it just takes away any impact from the movie, like "Dances With Wolves") and being too sympathetic towards the US Government's actions (not cool in today's Post-Imus world). I always thought that the Geronimo movie that came out a few years ago (where Gene Hackman played General Crook) did a good job of staying on that line.

Anyone else going to watch?

Man, Fat Would Love To See This. Thank You For Bringing It Up. As It Is Memorial Day Weekend, Fat May Not Be Home To See It, Though.

Also, If You Hear Of Any Documentaries About The 400TH Anniversary Of The Founding Of Jamestown, F_S Would Be Very Interested In That As Well.

Alpha male native american men with long black hair are completely hot.
It must be in my genes... being of Aztec descent myself.

Watching now... i love stories of truth. NOT the stories we are fed by the white people social studies textbook in public junior high school.

Into the West remains a personal favorite of mine.

Carlin was right, we love to destroy brown people.

Carlin was right, we love to destroy brown people.
We've grown since then. Since the early 20th century, we've been milking them for cheap labor, while still bitching about them being here (referring to the more "southern" ones).

i don't know. other minorities have been persecuted (most notably irish, italian and jewish folk) but it's easier for white minorities to eventually blend into the rest of the majority.

I don't think the original brown people were thinking about "blending in".

I don't think the original brown people were thinking about "blending in".

i'm not saying they were, but it's easier for any persecution to continue because they look different. i don't think they were persecuted because they were brown, as was first postulated. plus, anywhere you go, people like to pick on the people who are different. even if everyone's the same race and religion, they will just find some even finer line to differentiate themselves. you go to THAT church, etc.

I thought they did a very good job of presenting both viewpoints of the Indians and of their white contemporaries....from the fact that the thought at the time was to "assimilate" the Indians into white culture to the whole scene with Nelson Miles and Sitting Bull, where General Miles kindly reminded him that the Sioux were not a peaceful people, and had wiped out many other tribes and peoples themselves when they had been driven into the Dakotas from the MidWest

I just finished watching this and thought it was really well done. I just wish it had been longer, maybe a 3 or 4 part mini-series, so that they could have done Littile Big Horn and had some of the story of Crazy Horse in there also or maybe have told more of the story of Charles Eastman's father.
