View Full Version : Earl takes the easy road yet again/Earl's awful production skills(or lack there of)

I will start out by saying maybe I am just demanding too much from Earl with the best-ofs that are playing during this little suspension that XM 202 is going through right now.
Or....Maybe this is all they wanted to do during the suspension.
Or...maybe it's not even Earls' fault and it is "the people in D.C." as he explained today. And It has only been two days since the best-ofs started, even though it should have started earlier.
But anywho, has anyone else noticed that what is playing for best-ofs is just a best of the week from a year and half ago?
Yesterday's best-of and today's best-of are shows that took place in the same week. So I am guessing Earl has just picked some random spot in the big list of Best of the Weeks and told the people in D.C. to hit play.
So instead of Earl picking the best bits the boys have ever done since they have come to XM, make some sort of Best of XM, and play those throughout the suspension(which would turn casual listeners into really big fans) he decides to just put on old Best of the Weeks
So now we get to hear interviews with the writer of Jarhead, and other...to quote Ronny.... "shitty interviews with directors of movies no-one will see".
Fucking Earl, what do you really do for the show? that is my rant, I would like to hear anyone elses opinion on this

I thought the best of today was excellent. And that was a great interview with the Jarhead author.
As long as there is a different best-of with each 3 hour interval, which Ron asked for today, and they are not replays of last week, I think he'll do fine.
A replay from this time last year is fine. I haven't heard it in a year!

That's an interesting question, Chubb257. I think the best-of picks have been great, and the thing that they have in common is that they feature a pre-heartattack Fez. You know, before he peaked.
Disclaimer: the only reason I feel OK poking fun at a man who is essentially the big gay love of my life is my absolute certainty that he does not read this board.

I think a lot of people are not understanding that Ron and Fez went from only needing a few replays a week for the weekend to needing 7 replays per day. This is a HUGE change for anyone on the staff, be it Earl or any other person. I think we need to calm down a little and realize that if this was normal broadcasts we would hear three hours of RnF, and then replays of the Oand A show from earlier that morning....
I don't think we should expect more than what we would normally get.

After listening to the beginnig of the show today again and after reading over what I wrote I think that came off way too mean. All they wanted was some best-of instead of playing the the same show 24 hours straight and they delivered. I think I just should have waited it out and not said anything.

I'm in full agreement with everyone who disagrees with the first poster in this thread. You're not entitled to everything you want, but you are certainly entitled to complain if you so feel the need. But I'm not obliged to agree or even be nice- I'm entitled to think you should stop complaining because you seem like someone who is going to find something to complain for the sake of complaining because you like to complain about your complaints. Think before you complain you complainy-pants complainer. I loved this best-of because it wasn't the same old rehashed shit we hear every other best-of they do. So I have no complaint.

Oh I just saw this post after I posted. My apologies sir. You're actually not so much a complainer as I thought you were. God Bless. There's hope in people after all! If you ever make an event I'll buy you a beer in apology.
I have yet to buy Mikeyboy that beer I promised in February...

I thought the "best of" today was great.
The two or three segments I got to listen to was stuff that I missed in the past and it was very enjoyable.
Keep up the great work Earl!!
I'm probably gonna get slammed for that last remark.

What everyone needs to understand is that doing the best ofs is a huge strain on the staff. It's not as simple as picking a bunch of great bits and throwing them on the air. Every minute must be listened to to make sure it fits in the post-Imus/post O&A suspension standards. The fact that the show is able to deal with best ofs everyday while still putting on 6 hours a day of live radio is admirable as fuck, especially when they were really not given advance notice that they were taking over the channel for the month. If anyone thinks Earl is slacking on this, they are sadly mistaken.

I think Ron just knows bringing out "Evil Earl" makes for some great radio.

I was reading this thread thinking the exact same thing. Of course I'll defer to MikeyBoy's prepared answer on this one.

No Fez + a tamed down Dolly = Ron pushes Earl's buttons. Give the man a break, Earl & the crew are doing a helluva job on this one.

I love evil earl, It is fun to hear him try to spout off insults at the callers. He has so much intent, just can't ever get out the right words... wonderful

on the way to work tonight i got to hear something i missed the first time around: an interview with Judith Belushi. what a great interview. i will be picking up the book. Growing up i was a huge fan of Belushi's (i still am) and i read the book WIRED more than once as a teenager. the guy was an idol to me. he made people laugh and i knew that it was something i wanted to do in my life. I didnt get the same things that ron & fez did out of WIRED, maybe becasue i was a teenager but to me, he seemed larger than life and his partying ways seemed cool as hell to me.
GREAT JOB EARL!

I'm sticking with the "F-Earl" sentiment.
I don't know the guy personally, so I can't speak to his actual character, but "the guy on air" is a complete douche. I'm not a fan.
As I said, I don't know what he is like in real life so I withold absolute judgement.
... however he is probably still a douche...

What's the reason they can't play the classic WNEW bits?

They don't have an agreement with CBS to be able to play the WNEW audio on XM like O&A do.

You guys should totally take it easy on Earl and staff. They're scrambling to come up with stuff in a very short time frame.
That said, there should be a backlog of best-of's waiting for such and occasion.

I don't know if there are or not, but even if there was a backlog put together, let's say in March, someone would still have to re-review every minute of those best-ofs to make sure that they complied with the recent change in standards.

And would you like to guess how Earl spent last weekend?
There's no way Earl had time to really listen to them between Tuesday and Friday last week.

Nevermind. My nexus fucked up and started playing today's show by mistake.
