I just saw on myspace that "The Future is Unwritten", a movie about Joe Strummer of the Clash was released on May 18th. I haven't heard anything about this movie and I don't know if it's even being released stateside.

I'm a huge fan of the Clash and I know a number of other people on the board are as well. Westway to the World was pretty good, but I'd be really interested to see this.

Didn't they interview the guy who made this movie? Or was that someone who wrote a book about Strummer?

Now that you mention it, I think they did interview someone involved in the movie. Either that, or they talked about it.

Crap, I totally forgot about that. Does anyone remember when that was? Can someone put out the Mikeyboy signal?

Seriously, this movie better be coming to a theater near me.

That movie was Let's Rock Again. A very good movie. Strummer came off as a very cool and humble guy in the movie. It's a shame he's gone. He's one the people that would age gracefully.

I think they had the director (Dick Rude) of Let's Rock Again which was about post-Clash Joe Strummer when the DVD came out a year or so ago. I haven't heard about this movie either.

"The Future is Unwritten" played at Sundance a few months ago and may be in limited release;

"Let's Rock Again" was from about a year ago;

"Redemption Song: The Ballad of Joe Strummer" is the name of a new non-fiction biography that was published yesterday.

I enjoyed the interview with Julien Temple today. Can't wait to see the movie.

I checked the website, but it doesn't seem to have been updated with release info for Nov. 2 and beyond.

I was a certified Clash fanatic back in my high school days & I still love them to this day. Joe Strummer was always the heart and soul of the band, and had one of the coolest voices in rock and roll history.

I can't wait to see this movie.

I've always been a huge Clash fan, but in recent years Joe Strummer has become a personal idol of mine (I think idol is the right word, I've never had one before).
His work with the Mescaleros produced some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard.
I can't wait for the movie to come out and I can't fucking beleive I missed the interview yesterday, all I caught was London Calling...:glurps:

This was released in England earlier this year, and I think is already on DVD there. If you search the torrent sites, you can find it. I d/l it last week but haven't found time to watch it yet.

It has finally opened in DC at the Landmark E Street Cinemas. :clap: Now I just need to find time to go see it.

Has anyone seen it yet? All the reviews I have seen have been positive.

I'm not anti-torrent, but (as mentioned on the show) watching movies on the computer sucks. Plus, I don't mind spending my money to support the creators of a project like this.

Have any DC people seen a movie at this theater?

I saw this at IFC Center recently without knowing much about Joe Strummer. It was good, but I found reading a wikipedia article was more informative, as this movie really tried to be artsy and focused around the events going on around the same time as Joe Strummer's rise to musical fame rather than Joe Strummer himself.

Yo same here.
Global a Go Go hit me like a ton of bricks and is straight up my favorite album of all time. Tymon Dogg's violin work is completely otherworldly and adds such a sound to it. You hear something different in the mix every time you put it on. So much damn music.

I can't wait to see this movie.

also "Let's Rock Again" is a trip.
Such great perfomances and the scenes of him in Atlantic City are almost heartbreaking but completely relevant and beautiful.

also, if you follow a lot of the links in the related part, you'll see some great perfomances.
Its some show from Germany, and the sound quality is really solid:

I never realized till this moment that Joe Strummer (with the Muscalleros) did my fave version of the 'Minstrel Boy' ever. I didnt realize it till I read the credits. I used this song in presentations and gave credit to Howard Zimmer and people accepted it. They never questioned it. And that is what bothers me. Dude you hear Joe Strummer's inflection all the way. I am just upset no one callled me out on ti sooner.

God teachers are cunts!!

Dude we have use this song for Somali reuinion guys and I never reckognized it...I am soooo embarrassed.

Such a beautiful version of the song. Showed just how smart Strummer was regarding music.
