I hate looking for a new job. I've been in the career I'm in now for over 7 years, so now I'm trying to switch careers, but I keep getting so frustrated and just ready to give up and keep my dumb, soul sucking job.

How long does it normally take people to find a new job?

Arg. Job searching sucks. At least its not much easier, and I don't have to go to 100 places dropping off resumes and applications.

I've been looking since December, when I graduated college....

I think for me its just about finding a specific place where I can get my foot in the door...and then go from there

it took me about a year to find my first "real" job. and when i became burned out and needed a change; about a year to transfer to my current job.

there's no exact science to 'how long'... just keep your chin up and keep plugging away

good luck!

The best way is network, network, network. Hang out with friends, friends of friends and former co-workers.

I read once something like 85% of all jobs are filled by personal contacts and referrals. I used to put a small ad in the local paper when I needed to hire someone and I would literally get hundreds of resumes. A big corporation that puts an ad in "The New York Times" gets thousands of responses.

It's like looking for a wife. Go to church, bars or have someone you know set you up somewhere.
