It's very funny. Of course, I bought in when Arj Barker and Eugene Mirman were in the first scene. Pushed in all my chips.

They're like an insecure Tenacious D.

Still on the fence about it. It's part "It's always Sunny in Philadelphia" and part Tenacious D. I got to admit, I fast forwarded the first song. With the kiwi accent it's hard to hear all the lyrics.

Anyone notice the New Zealand posters...

"New Zealand - Just Like Lord of the Rings! "

Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.

Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they've managed to find a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) -- but not much else.

they incorporate their songs into the scenes

This show rocks. I'm afraid it won't get any big buzz and will get canned like Lucky Louis (this is WAY better, as much as I like Jimmy and Louis C.K.).

I've already started recording all the songs to put on my ipod.

i like the show, it reminds me a little of Tenacious D, a very dry Tenacious D.

Best line so far is when they are talking to their friend Dave and he calls the British, they correct him and he says "You know I really don't give a shit". Hillarious.

John from Cincinatti was my front runner for Sunday night HBO but Im digging this show now.
Murray is a riot. Im thinking New Zealanders are much funnier than Australians. Apparently they were on BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/comedy/conchords.shtml) radio before coming to HBO.

It's a chicken-egg situation.

Things that are great about Flight of the Conchords:

1. Superfan Mel
2. "He sounds kind of like a robot."-"That's the New Zealand accent."
3. Arj Barker
4. Amazing parody videos

I am really looking forward to an upcoming episode with their song, Bowie, which is not just about David Bowie, but is about David Bowie from 1967-1969.

NICE! I'm jealous. I'm going to see if I can get some better tickets. I just needed to get some so I was guaranteed to be there. My sister is flying down to visit me to go together. She got me into them this Christmas when she got the DVD's.

Awesome!

So, are you a Jemainiac or a Bretrosexual?

It's so hard to decide but I think I'd say Bretrosexual. I think the animal sweatshirts tipped the sclaes in his favor!

Did anyone else think that the second rendition of "Hurt Feelings" (the one with all of the secondary characters) was a reference or homage to Magnolia.

I didn't pick that up at the time but thinking back I can see it.

My question is...is Mel on anybodys odly hot list?

I thought last night was their best episode musically. "Too many dicks" was really good. And so was Jermaine's 2nd song about the girls he's dated.

I want Murray to be my best friend.

Last nights episode was directed by Michel Gondry which is why the videos looked so awesome. For anyone who missed:

as much attention that Jermaine and Murray get, i actually think the subtlety of Bret is the best part of the show. I can't explain it, but Bret's laid back, keep-it-cool attitude makes me laugh harder than anything else on the show

Absolutely, when Murray talks in his little high pitched voice with that accent it's brilliant.

Funniest show on TV hands down.

i was laughing so hard i was cryin' when they were doing the Dog Epilepsy benefit and in the song they go "...the REMIX!" and all the blinking lights started and you hear all the dogs yelping. That was so funny

i totally agree, bret makes the show. it's the little things that he does, more than what he even says. like the helmet that looks like hair... brilliant. and when he was drawing the little creases and lines on the gloves that look like hands. bret's the best. plus, not a lot of guys (read: none) could pull off those animal graphic sweatshirts.

with the exception of one or two great songs, i actually prefer the show when they're not singing.

I LOVED the Gondry episode and have watched it three times.

"Did you wear protection?"

"Yes, but...only on my penis."

"My great-granddad was a renowned rapist, and my great-grandmother was a prostitute, and they met- well, I say met, but you know- he raped her."

I have also been singing "Carol Brown just took a bus out of town..."

Thats definately one of the best song/videos of the series. The last two episodes have been really on point. Although I could stand a little more Mel.

That's basically why they decided that this is the last season. I remember seeing interviews where they said it was just too hard to come up with songs for a whole season of episodes.

Went to the show on Tuesday night, it was great!!! They guys are good live and it was all songs and talking in between, they improv'd a few times and were hilarious. I went in a Bret fan and left a Jemaine fan, he won me over live. Here's the set list:

"Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor"
“Hurt Feelings”
“Stanna” (A country song about Satan I’ve never heard)
"The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room)"
“Carol Brown”
“Jenny”
"I Told You I Was Freaky"
"Foux du Fafa"
"Mutha'uckas"
“Business Time”
"I'm Not Crying"
“Bus Driver”
"I Love Dogs with Epilepsy"
“Think About It”
"Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros"
"We're Both in Love with a Sexy Lady"
“Sugalumps” (acoustic)
Encore 1 – "Albi the Racist Dragon"& “Bowie”
Encore 2 – “Demon Woman”

Eugene Mirman (who plays the landlord on the show) opened for them with about a 30 minute stand up set. He was quite funny and told this story about Delta Airlines screwed him over so bad that with the claim money he got from them he had these postcards made up. He hands them out at shows for people to harass them. It gave me quite a chuckle:

http://tvnz.co.nz/entertainment-news/flight-conchords-in-emmy-race-2850822

Flight of the Conchords is going from strength to strength in the United States.

The New Zealand comedy duo have picked up six Emmy nominations. These include best actor in a comedy for Jemaine Clement, as well as best comedy series, outstanding directing for a comedy series and outstanding writing for a comedy series.

The flight is over...

Business time is over. Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, who starred in and co-created HBO's "Flight of the Conchords," say there won't be a third season of the show. In a statement posted on the Conchords web site Thursday, McKenzie, Clement and co-creator James Bobin say they "like the way the show ended" and are leaving it at that. They've spoken in the past about the difficulty of writing songs to fit the show's episodes -- which contributed to the 16-month gap between the first and second season on HBO.
