i'm sitting here drunk and on my itunes Roger Miller's "the last word in lonesome is me" just came on. i'm pretty heartbroken right now and for this brief moment in time, it's the perfect song. any other Roger Miller fans out there? i think the guy is totally underrated. He has a list of great songs...
king of the road
husbands and wives
last word in lonesome is me
chug-a-lug
dang me
walkin in the sunshine
and a bunch of others

I put together a CD of country drinking songs a few years back and Chug-A-Lug was right at the top. I love some of the older country Like Miller, George Jones, Hank Williams, Jonny Cash. I think Miller put out some great American music. If you really want to get depressed over a chick listen to George Jones' "If drinkin' don't kill me (Her memory will)." That'll get ya...

When I was a kid, King of the Road was my favorite song. I still sing it from time to time.

a current guy that sounds like an old timey country singer is Junior Brown. Check out "Highway Patrol" and "Youre wanted by the police (and my wife thinks youre dead)".
But back to Roger Miller, my dad listened to him all the time when I was growing up.
Dad's fave: "Little Green Apples". Mine: "You Cant Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd".
Did you know?... Roger Miller had a hit with "Me and Bobby Mcgee" BEFORE Janis Joplin OR Winnie Cooper??!!
