i refuse to listen to krock untill cbs puts the boys back on terrestrial radio, so can someone tell me which jocks krock is using? it seems silly that they got rid of them in december and now they must need them again... or new similarly bland dj's.

They aren't using any all weekend I think. I bet Julie Slater and Cabbie will be two of the "new" ones if I had to take a guess.

No he's out and did a couple of try outs at night for FreeFM. He even did the JV & Elvis slot for a week after they got fired. He seems to have more of a conservative company line type view. I'm sure he can amp it up and put on the Crazy Cabbie Character in order to intro an old AC/DC song.

Does anyone really listen to radio to hear the jocks...I rather they keep none..say what song is about to be played then shut up....I hate regular radio..it just sucks.

Apparently the folks at the dentist's board think that the jock makes or breaks the station. If it's not talk, I don't want to hear someone speaking. Regular radio sucks without the buddays... And while I'm on it, isn't K-Rock supposed to be "new" and "hip"? Then why do I hear older rock like AC-DC and Lynyrd Skynyrd? Isn't that what Q-104 and WBAB is for?

I always loved Richard Neer on WNEW. I also appreciate his sports analysis on WFAN. I still like Vin Scelsa. His "Idiot's Delite" introduced me to many alternative tracks from my favorite artists long before the internet was able to lead me to them by the nose. I still listen to him on WFUV. The old CBS-FM jocks had great personality. When I was growing up we couldn't get enough of those guys on WABC-AM in New York. As I got into Punk and New Wave in the late '70's and Early '80's WLIR 92.7 on Long Island was the only hip station to listen to (except Hoftra's WHRU which I worked at in the mid to late 80's ). The jocks on WLIR were an integral part of the station and gave it the unique personality it became famous for. Malibu Sue, Donna Donna, Maxx, Larry The Duck and DJ Bird were as vital to the station's popularity as the cutting-edge music they played. The last days of WLIR/WDRE in the late 90's were very sad indeed, and may have spelled the end of hip radio in the Long Island/metro area altogether.

To make a very long story short... I do think that there was a time when the DJs were as vital to the stations as was the music those stations played.

I have to agree with Docgoblin.

I have fonder memories of Dan Ingram, Harry Harrison, and even Cousin Brucie than I do of some of the more forgettable music they sometimes played. ("Sylvia's Mother"?) Dan Ingram was the King of the pun. He was funny on WABC. He was funny on WCBS. He was even funny doing afternoons on WKTU for a few months in the mid-eighties. I remember laughing out loud when he outtro'ed some dance song with "That was WHATCHAMACALLIT by WHATS-THEIR-FACE." Brilliant

I really didn't discover talk radio until 2001, first with O & A and The Radio Chick and shortly thereafter with Ron and Fez. It wasn't until then that I realized how hokey music radio is. At this point I really can't listen to any sort of mass appeal Scott and Todd phone-scam zoo crap. If K-Rock is going to have any sort of success they better have some decent talent on-air after O&A. I think people will only tolerate commercial radio if there is some level of entertainment beyond just music. If people want only music they'll play CD's or Ipods and avoid the commercials.

At home I listen to music channels on Dish Network (provided by Muzak) that have no jocks at all. Dish Network also carries music channels from Sirius that have jocks, but I prefer the Muzak without any talk. Talk that's not truly interesting is just noise.

So, if I get hired for a spot on terrestrial radio, everyone's boycotting?

Thanks.

Well, East Side Dave, Opie, and E-Rock got their start spinning records. You have to talk on the air to develop a personality.

I understand a lot of guys I like on talk radio got their start spinning music, that's why I said MOST in my statement.

But 99% of the time these jocks are just getting in the way of my music. I don't want Rock Birthdays, fun facts about the artist or any of that garbage.

we have a pretty decent radio station that just gives you information about music between songs, don't talk over music, and don't do tix contest.

I prefer having jocks talk between tracks, as long as they have something interesting or funny to say. Otherwise, I might as well just listen to my collection of music. If you ever hear, "Well I'm just rambling, let's get back to the music" or something like that, it can be guaranteed that the whole segment was a giant mess of boring drivel that was painful to listen to.
