First tropical storm of season gets stirred up in the Gulf of Mexico. (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/F/FL_TROPICAL_WEATHER_FLOL-?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US)

So what's the bet? Gas in NJ is 2.91 a gallon. Betting on 3.10 by Wednesday. I'm also calling for the end of 2.00-3.00 a gallon gasoline. The oil companies felt us out pretty well last summer, and that ended the 2.00 and below pricing. I'll predict that the oil companies are going to try to get us used to payin 3.50 to 4.00 a gallon by the end of the summer, so we'll never see gas below 3.00 a gallon ever again.

Blood sucking fuckers.

How many liters go into a gallon? I think it's about 3.7. Right now I am paying $1.35 per liter for gasoline in my area. That means I am paying almost $5 per gallon. Consider yourself lucky to get gas for $3 per gallon.

We have always paid less than most countries in Europe and Canade, here in the states. You think some of you bastards would come up with another solution than using oil. Looks like we'll have to take the lead on this one too.

It's $2.99 here. The weird thing is, it's the same price at every station. Usually, you have a few that are the lowest price, the majority that are a few cents higher, then the ones by the interstate that are the highest. But they're ALL $2.99 now.

I think you are right. I hope you are right. The consumers are beginning to speak in the marketplace as well. (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070602/AUTO01/706020375/1148/rss25) The nice thing about this is that Detroit is beginning to come around. The gas crunch of the late 70s had GM and Ford make real shitty cars like the fairmount and the citation. Ugh! Now the cars are cool, and are getting great mileage for non-hybrids. Now we just have to push them to do better.

In the Detroit area the price is around $3.40 a gallon. I could find it at $3.10 if I went into the hood. The worst part for me is it costs me now $75-$80 to fill up my truck. Oh, and I fill it every 4 days. I put about 600 miles a week on my truck. If the price remained steady it would cost me $6843 every year.

The inflation-adjusted peak price of gas back in 1981 was $3.07 a gallon.

Fuckin A that brings back memories! In 1980 we paid $5500 for a new Ford Fairmont in Santa Monica and drove it to our new home in Arizona that year. Motherfucker broke down about a dozen times in the desert on the way. I remember saving the say when I got an idea to climb over all our shit to get a coathanger from the front of our U-Haul to hold the muffler on with. By the time we got to Phoenix the whole car was held together with coathangers and Duc Tape. By 1983 that piece of shit was the first rusting corpse in our front yard of our new house in Apache Junction, Az. By the time I left in '86 the house was also being held together with coathangers and Duc Tape. Now that I think about it I'm wondering how the neighbor girls managed to get abortions with all the home and auto repairs in that town. Oddly enough I never felt compelled to read Iacoca's book about his successful life. Thanks, Scott for this little trip down memory lane.

Stop it. Just stop it.
The price adjusted for inflation could be 4,000,000,000 dollars a gallon, but it isn't. And it's a moot point. The point is is (god I hate doing that) the price of gasoline per gallon has more then doubled in less then 2 years, hurting a lot of Americans who have no stake in the oil industry and are just trying to get to work or use their trucks to perform services such as deliveries, towing and running equipment and other needs that can only be performed by gasoline/diesel powered motors. Adjusted for inflation makes it sound all nice and neat, like the price finally caught up with the rest of the economy. But the rest of the economy is dependent on the price of gasoline and diesel, and when you are paying more then twice the amount weekly to fill your tank, then all the things you buy have gone up because the price of fuel to deliver the goods have gone up-the price adjusted for inflation is like the professor at school explaining economics in a purely "supply vs. demand" situation. It's bullshit.
The price of a barrel of oil as I type this is 66.21 on the Bloomberg website. The last time gasoline was over 3 dollars a gallon average nationwide was when oil was about 70-72 dollars a barrel. So in reality gasoline should be averaging 2.50 a gallon and going DOWN as the "transition" from winter to summer is now over.
So adjusting for inflation is doublespeak and a way to placate most americans who are too busy to do the research and believe in free markets and the government's role in keeping monopolies from forming.
That OPEC isn't a cartel is a lie. That the oil companies don't control fuel prices is a lie. That speculators don't drive up oil prices with bullshit reasoning is a lie.
And anytime "alternative" energy is discussed, oil companies come out with absolute lies and slander. BP has actually said that ethanol is bad for your car, producing less horsepower and putting more wear on your pistons by predetonation which burns holes into piston heads. BULLSHIT. Any mechanic worth his salt can make ANY internal combustion motor that runs on gasoline run on ethanol and the IRL (Indy Racing League) has had so much success with ethanol that power and speeds are up-and most stunning of all, fuel economy increased so high that they had to reduce the amount the fuel tanks can hold because the mileage went UP so high the cars could stay on the racetrack well past the point the tires would disentegrate. Horsepower UP, fuel mileage UP, and BP will mail you a flyer telling you that ethanol is bad for your car. TOTAL BULLSHIT and the CEO of BP should be jailed.
FUCK THE OIL COMPANIES-THEY ARE LYING TO YOU TO KEEP YOU BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS!
FUCK THE ECONOMISTS-THEY ARE PROFITING OFF OF YOU WITH OIL STOCK DIVIDENDS!
FUCK THE GOVERNMENT-REPUBLICANS ARE IN THE POCKET OF BIG OIL, AND DEMOCRATS ARE IN THE POCKET OF OIL REFINERY WORKER'S UNIONS!

We had a Fairmont WAGON, the biggest tool in Ford's Fleet back then. It was such a piece of shit that I remember throwing gum wrappers through the hole in the floorboard so I could watch it come out from behind the car and get stuck in the radiator of the jerk tailgating us. HEE HEE. I brought up the Citation because the Fairmont wasn't reliable for long trips, so my dad borrowed a Citation one year for our annual trip to Buffalo New York from our home in Linwood, NJ. My sister and I couldn' move because we were wedged in between the Coleman Cooler and the luggage.
A goal of mine is to meet Edsel Ford III, put him in a Fairmont and drive him off a cliff.
God I hate Ford. Chevy redeemed itself with me with the Cavalier, a reliable car with a gas efficient engine that didn't puss out at toll plazas.

I'm not much for getting into political arguments, oil or otherwise..

Since you make a statement like the above, then you should stop driving at all. Paying 3 dollars a gallon is awful, but it is a necessary evil at this point in most of our lives. I myself do not have access to a wonderful public transportation system nor would like to bike/walk the 20 miles to work every single day. Sure I could carpool with somebody, but then that just aggravates schedules and causes more headaches in the long run. Hell, if I could afford it, I wouldn't mind buying another car that was better on gas.

Sure the oil companies are lying to us, much like most other big business happens to do. But what do you expect the general public to do about that?

I only made the simple observation about inflation adjustment just to throw something out there, not to justify their actions.

Pay the 3 bucks a gallon and get over it.

That is my point altogether....and not personally directed at you with the ending rant, so sorry if you got pissed off-I didn't mean to do that or sound so condescending.

I don't drive my personal car except on the weekends, and now as little as possible, even though it is a fuel efficient vehicle I drive my boss' car to deliver medication to those who can't leave their house. And it costs twice as much now as it less then two years ago. The United States' economy is based on oil and transportation, and a very few have control over what the very many pay for those transportation costs.

I thought it would be a good idea, with the summer coming and gas prices that will most likely start to soar again, we could post the best prices in whichever area you live in.

It might help to keep the cost of filling your tank up a little lower.

I don't know why anyone would needlessly buy an SUV or minivan. Maybe if you have 2+ kids or some sort of business that requires it, but why drive a car that will require 20+ dollars extra everytime you fill up the gas tank?

I bought a mid sized SUV I guess, a Honda CRV, but I get 30MPG. I had to trade in my Civic after it got totaled in a flood. I needed something a bit higher off the ground.

Every time I see someone driving around in a fucking Hummer, I immediately assume they are an asshole

Here's the thing that REALLY sucks...

There's a "halo" of houses we can afford in different communities around NJ.

Problem?

They're all about 45 minutes away from work.

I floated the idea of working from home if I moved far away - it was immediately shot down.

...doesn't E85 get less mpg than regular?

Not that I know of. IRL (Indy Racing League) runs straight ethanol in the race cars, and the mileage is so good, the rules committee determined that the fuel tanks have to be smaller to be able to equalize fuel consumption and tire wear. In other words, instead of having drivers staying on the race course past the wear points of the tires in order to gain track position, now they will pit for fuel at the same time they will be needing to change tires.

I am just wondering how PA can be 30 cents higher and they don't have to have the poor fool who has to pump your gas in all kinds of weather conditions...

Fuel Taxes. I just got back from a vacation in Orlando, and the difference in taxes from state to state really shows.
