WASHINGTON (AP) -- Officials say at least six people are in critical condition after a car plowed into a street festival in Southeast today.

DC fire department spokesman Alan Etter says about 30 people are being taken to hospitals.

WTOP radio reports that the woman behind the wheel was being chased by police.

Not that I excuse the woman, but police chases haven't gone well around here lately. The worst was the idiot cops who thought they could catch a motorcycle on the highway. Two people killed, and 15 hurt, and the bike got away.

A woman plowed her car through a crowded street festival Saturday night, injuring about 35 people, including two police officers who drove their motor scooters into her path attempting to stop her, authorities said.

Police said seven of the victims, including two children under age 3, suffered major injuries.

when she came through the festival.

David White, president of the Chicago Shannon Civic Association, said Bell grew up in the neighborhood and is well known. White said he and other residents saw her in the area on Saturday morning, driving erratically and clipping parked cars. He said he confronted her, but she acted like she didn't know him.

"I said, 'Tonya, what are you doing?' She was sweating like a race horse. We tried our best to stop her. ... She was just in a
deranged state of mind," White said.

Volvo station wagon to be exact. And yes... she did get a job with Marion Berry. They found out about her former crack conviction and fired her. There was some controversy about how they didn't do a proper background check on her.

And the earlier PCP talk was wrong. It was crack.
