Moe's thread asking for advice on dealing with life made me think we could use a place where we could all post some favorite quotes/words of wisdom that have helped us get through our own troubles.
Post anything, from a short phrase that kept you on a diet to a longer one that kept you sane.
I'll start
"Better to be occasionally cheated than perpetually suspicious"
-B C Forbes
"Golf without bunkers and hazards would be tame and monotonous. So would life."
-B. C. Forbes
"Don't curse the darkness - light a candle." - Chinese proverb

Always expect the worst. You'll be right most of the time but when you're wrong you'll be happy. (Not sure if I'm stealing that one or came up with it myself.)
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever. - Dave Barry

Great idea for a thread, Bulldog. There are literally hundreds of quotes (and even lyrics) that I've found to be enlightening and inspirational, and I'm sure it's the same for everyone.
A few of my favorites -
"The boat always rights itself as it passes under the bridge" - Chinese proverb
"Compete with no one, and no one can compete with you" - Lao Tzu
"The entire moon and sky are reflected in a single drop of dew" - Dogen

Made me think of my favorite Bukowski quote, " Some people never go crazy. Why truly horrible lives they must lead." I don't know if it's something to live by, but it makes me feel better when shit is going haywire.

"Freedom is something that dies unless it is used."
Freedom's Just Another Word For Nothing Left To Lose.
Another passage from Lao Tzu's Tao that I use to remind myself of the untapped potential in every human being -
"He who is in perfect harmony is like a newborn child; though his bones are soft and his muscles weak, his grip is firm.
Though he has not yet known the union of male and female, his organ stirs with vitality.
He can howl all day and night and never become hoarse, so perfect is its harmony."
