View Full Version : CNN Democratic Debate
If I had to score the order in how well they did (NOT the order in which I like each candidate):
1) Hillary Clinton
2) John Edwards
3) Joe Biden
4) Barack Obama
5) Bill Richardson
6) Dennis Kucinich
7) Chris Dodd
8) Mike Gravel
This was probably a big night for Hillary...she came across very strong, as did Edwards who took his shots at Hillary and Obama
Biden's sounded good in all the debates so far and easily seems the most knowledgable about foreign policy issues, but something about him just doesn't seem to resonate with people which is why he's getting no bounce from these things (that and no one watches them).
Obama was decent, but he got out performed by the other two of the top three...I get the feeling Obama may have peaked early in this campaign. He's going to struggle to beat Edwards in Iowa, and no one will beat Hillary in New Hampshire at this point.
The rest were just there...Richardson has good ideas but isn't a very good public debater. Kucinich was what he always is, as was Gravel...Chris Dodd just doesn't seem to belong.
If I had to predict, Hillary and Edwards get bounces out of it in New Hampshire, Obama takes a bit of a hit there, the rest stay stagnant.

I'm a big Obama fan, but I do think he can stumble on his best lines. That's especially bad for him because expectations are so high. However ... Hillary is not a NH shoe-in. That state is a mess from beginning to end and it can really shift in the next six months.
I love Biden in any public setting though.
I think it's great when he refers to himself in the third person: "I want to be the best biden i can be" (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11442718/)

The thing with Obama is the expectations...people just idealized the guy so much over the last year that it's difficult for him to impress because expectations are so high and when he makes a mistake it's so much more noticable.
Biden has sounded sharp all along, it's just that for whatever reason, the guy doesn't seem to connect, despite seeming to know his stuff.
Like I said, I think Hillary kind of took command of tonight's debate...Edwards did his best to take his shots which could either help or hurt him.
The other four candidates are DOA...well, Kucinich, Gravel, and Dodd are...Richardson is on life-support...he seems to be an interesting candidate but he just has no real ability to communicate.

Chill, Dudeman!
Bush Had A DUI In Maine From 20 Years Earlier That Was Leaked Out The Friday Before The 2000 Election. If It Hadn't, There Would Have Been No Electoral Nightmare, As He Would Have Won Florida Handily (At Least That's What The Pundits Say).

I didn't really think Hillary came off that strong, or Obama that bad. One thing that did bother me about Hillary was when she tried to play off 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' as progressive. I would have to say Edwards and Biden were the only ones to really stick out, but I don't think this debate is going to change how anyone feels.

I would think so to, but New Hampshire and Iowa are weird states in that they actually kind of pay attention to this stuff a little bit.
So it may have an effect in New Hampshire, since that's where the debate.
But, for the most part, yes, nobody watched and nobody cares yet.
As for Hillary, she came off strong because she didn't have to defend herself pretty much the entire night.
And if the debates go like that, she wins, because she's already ahead in most polls. The only person to really takes shots at her was Edwards...Obama just kind of sat back.
