Winning and losing this war has nothing to do with the resolve we have as a people right now. No matter what the people's resolve is, the administration will not commit enough troops nor will they pull out. The outcome of this war was decided when the administration disregarded every piece of military advice they didn't want to hear. Ask the Army war college about that.

Nice one, JD.
At this point most of America could give a rat's ass aboot Iraq. They want there kids home. Alive.
As it has been stated several times, the "inability" to commit to a full scale occupation and rebuilding merely turns Iraq into a slaughterhouse for our kids. If it were done correctly, we would already have our half million kids home, with fewer casualties.
Doomed from the start. And all the blame cannot be put on Mr. Bush. Remember, he has to deal with Congress.

History.
You quite obviously have no honest answers of your own to contribute besides bromides.
How about this Fat, a column of mine from college.
The Rebirth of Reason: Poisonous Alms
Robert XXXX
Columnist
Ayn Rand once wrote, "In any compromise between food and poison, it is only death that can win. In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit." The metaphysical implication of this statement is that there is no gray area when one deals with reality. You cannot choose to both live and die, as reality offers no middle ground. Either an action extends life, and is therefore good, or it injures life and is therefore evil. Moral choices in life assume the same form: that which is helpful to the life of an individual is good and that which injures it is evil.
Rands words point to a fundamental choice that every person must make, either to live or to die. Humans do not have an automatic reflex that allows them to live; they must live based upon the products of their mind. A plant cannot refuse photosynthesis, but a human can refuse to eat. A plant cannot devise a more efficient means of gathering nutrients, yet man has always created more efficient ways to gather food. Human life is based solely upon the production of the mind. As such, any refusal to think becomes a refusal to live. Any attempt to find a middle ground or avoid the decision to live is similar to choosing death. Just as any food compromised with poison will be injurious to life, so too is any moral code that accepts facets of evil. There can be no contradiction under this code; reality will not permit it.
A practical application of this thought can be found in the current structure of our tax code. When taken as individuals, most Americans stand firmly opposed to collectivism, and yet its end remains as the primary function of our tax code. Among other taxes, the government removes money from paychecks for Social Security, Welfare and other social services. Essentially, the tax code ensures that all must be responsible for all; every American has their income tied to taxes related to the welfare of others.
Every week, young Americans see money taken from their paychecks to help prop up a Social Security system that is failing miserably and is flawed in both conception and execution. Not only does this system imply that people who have failed to save money are owed a retirement wage that they would have otherwise frittered away, it has also failed to take into account that the average life span in this country has dramatically increased since its implementation. Now we are at a crux, as the money that is being paid into this system is not enough to cover its costs for the next decade, let alone the next three. This program shows one of the many historical failings of collectivism: a plan devised for the unknown future without incorporating knowledge of that which is occurring today. Pay for your neighbor, so that his grandchildren can pay for you. It creates cyclical dependence so that man is never truly free of other men. If you wish to reclaim the money taken from you during your youth, you must appear to the youth of today as a parasite requesting alms.
The tax code delves further into collectivism however, in that as a persons income rises a higher percentage of it is taken in taxes. Stripped to its essentials, the income tax is a scheme devised to burden those who have achieved in their lives with caring for those who have not. "To each according to his need, from each according to his ability." Do not be deceived by the statist claim that redistribution of wealth is an attempt to ensure justice. One cannot claim that justice can be achieved by any evil method. Unearned money taken without consent is theft, regardless of the laws that back it. A $100 tax check is akin to $100 dollars taken from a wallet. Only the method of transmission is different, as the tax check comes under the guise of honesty. The fact remains that the individual is not given a choice regarding the decision to pay tax, its either pay up or go to jail. When viewed in their naked form, taxes show themselves for what they truly are: charity at gunpoint.
Regardless of your choices in life, the simple fact remains that as long as we have a tax system in place that removes choice from the individual, the remnants of collectivism will remain in this country. The longer these principles are uncontested, the more damage they will do. Remaining silent is not the answer, as the choice of inaction grants your sanction to evil. Collectivism is antithetical to everything the United States stands for, and until it is wiped out of our laws we will continue to accept poison as food every April.

Very impressive. Now if you could tell me what "bromides" means I can get started on that reading.
A bromide ion is a bromine atom with charge of −1.
Compounds with bromine in formal oxidation state −1 are called bromides. This can include ionic compounds such as caesium bromide or covalent compounds such as sulfur dibromide.
Bromide compounds, especially potassium bromide, were frequently used as sedatives in the 19th and early 20th century. This gave the word "bromide" its colloquial connotation of a boring cliché, a bit of conventional wisdom overused as a sedative.
And as I stated above, I'm not gonna get into it and start fighting politics with people here again. Every argument you Bush apologists come up with, I have already been through. I don't care to re-hash old arguments. It will never serve a purpose. Politics on a board are nothing but dick-measuring contests. I'm not gay and therefore have no interest in seeing your dicks.

Your disappointment is obvious, but I'm going to burst a fatted cow for you:
I've found Fat Sunny to be the type of man who believed in the Barry Goldwater Republican. Those small-government, big idea type of people. Correct? Oh, I know it is.
Your current disappointment in the Republican Party is in George W. Bush and his running of the government. Not only in his management of the "war on terror", but also his long record of discretionary federal spending which has caused a great national debt which will be a burden on this great nation. Correct? Oh, I know it is.
How did this happen: Now comes the comment to upset Fat....Ronald Reagan. Reagan was a politician, but he was the man to tie the Republican Party to the "Religious Right". This by its very nature expanded the federal government within it's willingness to enter individual's lives. Plus Reagan had a strong record of discretionary spending. Sure Republicans wax poetic about the "good ol' days" of Reagan....but realistically he is to blame for carving the current path that we are on.

Not Bad, Epo!
The Only Thing Is, Reagan Did Not Create Or Even Groom The Born Agains. The President That Brought Them Onto The National Stage Was Jimmy Carter In 1976. Carter Proclaimed Himself A "Born-Again Christian", And Actively Courted The "Evangelicals". He Won Their Votes in '76, Over Gerald Ford. In The Next Election In 1980, Reagan And Carter Both Went After Them. It Was Carter's Fault For Empowering The Evangelicals!
