It's the story of Frank Lucas. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Lucas_%28criminal%29)

Damn...Ridley Scott is a hack extraordinaire sans True Romance, but this looks pretty fucking fantastic.

Tony's the hack.

Ridley Scott is NOT a hack. Just a disillusioned billionaire.

The movie could be bad-ass!

Shit, I mixed up the Scotts...though Ridley has been pretty hack-y himself in recent years. Black Hawk Down and Gladiator are decent, but really, outside of Alien and Blade Runner he's pretty average.

Here's a good article on Frank Lucas:

The Return of Superfly: Frank Lucas, once the city's biggest, baddest heroin kingpin the original O.G. in chinchilla, now seems like just a very likable guy. But don't be fooled. (http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/people/features/3649/)

American Gangster: A Tale of Two Trailers. (http://blogtown.portlandmercury.com/2007/08/american_gangster_a_tale_of_tw.php)

Good article on the two trailers for this movie out there and how they're targeting different audiences.

Trailers included.

I'm looking forward to this for a number of reasons, including the fact that they shot a couple of scenes in the lobby and exterior of the apartment building where I used to live.

Damn...watching that new Gangland series on the History Channel shows an old Frank Lucas, clearly not dead.

Spoiler alert?

Well, if you'd seen any press in the last month on the movie, they've been showing his picture. A recent picture. If you want to know what has happened to him, it's real easy to find out.

I'm also looking forward to seeing this. I haven't been to the movies in a while. I think SuperBad was probably the last film I saw. This looks pretty cool though.

saw it a few nights ago, I thought it was good. I am not a huge Denzel fan, but I thought it was done really well.

All I can say about this film is that it's fucking SOLID. You won't be bored.

honestly, this film was nothing more then o.k. in my eyes. Denzel was very solid, however i found the rest of the film to be pretty much a black Scarface but nowhere near as good.

Yeah, I saw it last night and I wasn't that impressed. It isn't a bad movie by any means and the two leads are fantastic, but by and large it ended up just being your standard biopic with a little more violence tossed in. Decent flick, but nothing to write home about.

Agreed. Didnt even seem like it was a 2 and a half hour movie. Was fast moving throughout the film.

I personally think obsessing over box office take is kind of dopey, but it does amuse me that it appears that this movie has beaten Jerry Seinfeld's lame bee movie.

The guy who made the #1 movie at the box office can come upstairs with me.

Not you, Seinfeld.
