Not as far as I can see Lleeder....tsn.ca has a live free agent tracker, thats where i'm getting most of my info from
I went to the Islanders website...its really a sad state of affairs. Well, we have ice girls...unless they've signed elsewhere.

Ortmeyer has gone to Nashville. He was my favorite Ranger. There was just something hokey and loveable about him. Godspeed, Jed.
I understand... but some sacrifices need to be made to bring back Shanny and Hank.
You'll always have Colton Orr.

i sat at work today and starred at a Devils hockey card set i was given during a game last year, I just looked at Gomez's card and for five good minutes I thought about what we were giving up and it really got me angry. His girl took off from work today, no doubt she was lying at home in a bath full of cash.

That blue jersey just looks so odd on him. I honestly am a little more upset about Refalski leaving though. I kinda knew Gomez was leaving, just hurts seeing one of the few defenseman we could trust leave

both him and Rafalski anger me. i really dont know what Lou's plan is here, but lying dormant and hoping Marty will bail you out all year is not really something i wanna get behind. the devils have never been about racking up a huge amount of goals every game and thats not what im looking for. its just the defense was so bad last season and to let Rafalski walk with some money to spend really confuses me. Gomez was such a "play-maker", he got goals but he really hurt you with his puck handling skills and his great ability to find the open man. these were guys we needed and while the devils continue to sit around the rangers have spend money like its going out of style, continuing to stock-pile major threats.

I know, it makes me so furious. I went into this off season looking foward to what Lou would bring in defense wise. I always hope for a scored to be added and yet am never satisfied. I just hoped we could retain Gomez and maybe steal a sniper from someone. It was a pipe dream to get one of the guys from Buffalo, but I just knew Lou wouldn't let this off season go by without making a big change. I was SO WRONG! Lou, you aren't filling the new stadium with this shit D

1. Devils sign Zubras..(Sorry Weeka)
2. Wfan had Delapina on (Daily News hockey guy) And he said.. Things have changed so much for the Rangers.. Players around the league would love to play for them.. There is such a buzz with them.. Players love Renney, they love his style and system.. Plus the players Love the team, plus some of the players they have coming up... They think the team has a chance to be really good for years.. Esp after Gomez and Drury.. And Shanny is such a good recruiter and is so respected around the league that people really listen to him.. And he has done such a great job recruiting.. He skated with Gomez, Skated with Drury, And people call him and ask, how is it to play for the franchise.. And he loved his year here, So players want to come. In fact he said (Delapina)that Shelden Souray has been desperately trying to find a way for the Rangers to sign him.. He wants to be here bad.. But the Rangers can''t do it.. They want to resign their 3 guys and they won't have enough.. Pruca basically is going to sign for the qualifying offer... He has to bide his time and prove himself more..
Also.. once again, Like with Brier, the sabers played their cards terribly with Drury.. Drury is a Conn kid, and grew up a Ranger fan.. And wanted to be closer to his family. As soon as he hit FA, He was coming here, and Buff should have known that and Locked him up.. I do not get what the Sabers are doing.. They were a piece away from really contending for a cup.. And they took a major, major step backwards.. I understand maybe not signing Brier.. But at least target Drury and get it done.. They had 2 weeks to negotiate with him.. But maybe he wanted to come closer all along.. Who knows.. We don't know what really went on..
1. Devils sign Zubras..(Sorry Weeka)

We're no longer going to call this the Free Agency Update. That's because as the Islanders practice patience on their way to making the right moves, there are options open to them beyond the scope of free agency.

And who can this be?? Your prospects aren't very good except for a Few.. And you need to be at the floor of the salary cap.. Which the Iles are way Below.. Like Delapina said.. They may have to sign your goalie to another 15yr ext just to reach the floor.. Man it must be tough to be a Ilander fan.. This was a once proud franchise.. I remember the hero's welcome Wong and Kumar got when they bought the team.. They have turned out to be disasterious owners.. Even worse than the Dolens.. Its sad.. Hockey here is so much better when all 3 teams are competing..

What, you mean that dirty front-loaded contract offer sheet you gave him in the midst of financial ruin for the company that owned the Avs at the time? Didn't the Rangers steal away enough franchise players back in the pre-strike NHL!? Thank God for the movie "Air Force One" with Harrison Ford! That movie alone (no shit) made enough money at that very instance that allowed the Avs to match that dirty contract offer sheet and keep our boy! Hence some of my disdain for the Rangers and Sather himself. Get a haircut you grey-haired hippie!
You can't use your typical Yankees-style argument with the Sakic thing. Sakic not coming to the Rangers is what set off all those FA signings, NOT in the midst of it. What other "franchise players" did they steal? Lindros? Try again.
Wait what? You're kidding right!? They did this plenty during that timeline, before and after. And who wasn't a top player that they signed back then? They all can't be on Joe's level sure, but most were up there for their teams at that time. Theo, Jagr, Holik, Poti, Kasp, Gretz, Mess, Robitaille and many many more. Looks like I "tried again".

Which is the bigger 1-2 punch signing - Gomez and Drury to the Rangers or Kariya and Tkachuk to the Blues?
Gomez and Drury are still young, there's plenty of upside, IMHO.
As for the preds jerseys... the Jets and Whalers jerseys had some class, some nostalgic value. The Preds jerseys? Not so much.
See that's too easy. The Rangers easily win their bc Tkachuk was really with the Blues last year and Kariya is the only addition. Now factor the age in and you have the win easily. Especially the way Drury simply wins everywhere.

As long as Marty is playing and is playing well.. The Devils will continue to make the playoffs every year.. Won't go that far because the playoffs in a whole different ball game.. But they will be there..
Not so sure here. Let's look at who should be in the mix.
1) Rangers
2) Ottawa
3) Pitt
4) TB
5) Atlanta
6/7/8) Buf, NJ, Tor, Mont, Car, Wash, Philly
As you can see, from 5 on down we could see one hell of a race for the last four spots.

Yea if they ever fuck up on Ludqvist.. Then this shit is all for nothing.. And Shanny is important.. Until Drury spends at least a year here and can take over leadership for him.. Shanny is just as or even more valuable in the locker room, as he is on the ice.. Drury can be that, but he needs a year under his belt..

Just saw a report on TSN.ca about the Nylander thing
Now apparently, Nylander and his agent had basically agreed upon a contract with the Oilers, but had NOT signed a standard player's contract...they had an agreement on paper, but had not signed an official contract. The Oilers are still REALLY pissed off about this, mostly at Nylander and his agent (thank God not the Caps) because its basically customary that once you have a deal worked out, its pretty much done (its just not legally "official" until they sign the standard player's contract, which Nylander had not done yet for the Oilers). The reporter said Nylander backed out of the deal with the Oilers because he was concerned about the flight times to and from Sweden, and the effects of the weather on his wife and six (six!) children (sounds like the ol' Pronger excuse)
The religious right should get it straight: Gay marriage isn't the biggest threat to the traditional family, it's the Edmonton Oilers.

There is Precedent over something like this.. In 94 wings offed Vernon a multi yr deal.. He faxed over an acceptance.. Wings Later changed the offer to 1 yr.. He filed a grievance saying since he faxed over the acceptance.. It should be a multi yr deal.. The arbitrator ruled in Det favor.. Saying No standard NHL Contract was produced.. Prob same thing here.. Kevin Collin Quinn Lowe is pissed.. And he should be.. He lost 24hrs thinking he had NYlander and stopped shopping.. Thats huge in this FA yr.. Plus a high profile FA made Edmonton look like shit by saying.. Its too far, the weather is too shitty, and took less money to sign somewhere else.. NHL players take notice of these things.. This is awful for Edm, all around

In two years Matty....two years we'll have that Cup. Deep playoff run this year, then the magic
Also, he was in DC already for a few years, so I'm sure he's familiar with the area already
My thinking is, the Caps and Oilers both offered him deals...he initially accepted the Oilers offer but then thought to himself that the Caps deal looked a lot better (and I bet his agent was behind most of the Edmonton stuff too like "hey Edmonton's offering us this and this" and he said "fine take it" without really thinking about it....and I wouldn't be surprised a lot of this went down in between Edmonton's house cleaning and Washington's acquiring of Kozlov and Poti)

He resurrected his career on the Island, he's a decent puck moving defenseman and PP QB (both of which we lacked last year on the back line) and him and Nylander immediately make the PP 10 spots better than it was. At the very least, he gives us depth on a unit that was DECIMATED by injuries last year (which hurt in the short term, but it did give guys like Jeff Schultz more playing time than they would have seen)

The Rangers need some D... but Avery was also the spark for them last season. So thats a tough one but I would go with Avery.
Shanny has made it clear he only wants to come back to the Rangers and the Rangers arent crazy enough to let Hank go anywhere.
Now should they bother getting Hossa back too?

It looks like Avery is going to Salary abitration.
Souray is still available.
The cap will be tight, but possible. I just wince at Souray's -28 last year.
souray is absolutely devastating on the powerplay. if the rangers still have room to pick him up, i can not even imagine how good their PP would be with him, jagr, and drury.
i think avery is a goon. yes, he brings a lot of emotion and grit to a team, but i see him more of a distraction.

Souray...in a heartbeat...You can find guys like Avery a dime a dozen (hell...they just let a guy like Avery go in Jed Ortmayer). In today's league that has such a premium on puck moving defensemen, Souray is worth his weight in gold. You'll take his lack of defensive skills in his own end for what he adds to you offensively (which is why a guy like Phil Housley was employed gainfully for something like 20 years, and why guys like Sergei Gonchar still have jobs). And like i've always said weeka...I liked Avery's bit when Matthew Barnaby did it...and how many teams has he been on now?

I think the last couple of seasons he's played like 70-80 games. Plus I think they only used Clemmy against situations that they didn't give a shit about (example: Last game against Isles that boosted them to the final playoff spot). They are one team that I always prayed never got a goalie in the draft, as I know for a fact he'd never play.

Most games appeared in by a goaltender, career: Patrick Roy, 1029
Most consecutive complete games by a goaltender: Glenn Hall, 502 (1955-1962)
Most games appeared in by a goaltender, one season: Grant Fuhr, 79 (1995-96)

from hradek's insider blog:
After talking with a couple of sources with some knowledge of the situation, I get the sense that Souray could be headed for New York to join the Rangers. That scenario makes sense for five reasons (that I can think of).
First, the Rangers figure to add another experienced defenseman.
Second, the Rangers don't have a dangerous offensive presence on their blue line.
Third, the Rangers could deal a roster player (Matt Cullen?) and/or offer less money to their own UFA Brendan Shanahan to create the cap space for another major addition.
Fourth, Souray might be waiting to sign with the Rangers to allow them to pursue a deal to create cap space. By waiting, Souray would allow his future team to make a deal with full leverage. If a club knew the Rangers had to make a deal for cap purposes, that club might offer less in return.
Fifth, Rangers GM Glen Sather has a good relationship with Souray's agent, Paul Theofanous.
Will this scenario play out? At this point, Souray's future plans remain a bit of a guessing game. And, as the Oilers found out, there are no certainties until a player signs a contract. Until he does sign his autograph on the dotted line, Souray remains a free agent. And, until then, we'll keep trying to figure out where he's going.

Avery over Souray or Shannahan huh!? Ha! Do you guys have a fucking clue as to how much this guy destroys chemistry of any team he's ever been on? He's the complete opp of Shannie and that's no joke. This from a red wing hater, but Avery over the course of the year will cripple the team in the end if anything ever goes wrong. He's a first class asshole. I'm sure he'll continue to be a great pest bc it's his nature of course, and his offensive stats aren't bad. Yet it's the leadership/experience and true grit that Shannie brings that the rangers need most, not an asshole. You have plenty of O talent out there and if you do this right Drury could be set up to be the next big captain for the team and the future. Who will wear the C??
Souray over Avery is easily described in terms of need and the fact that I believe Souray will have more points from the D slot then Avery and not cause so much shit. You have to be nuts not to take him over Sean.

Some of the best young talent in the lig spoon....Pittsburgh gets all the pub, but we've got just as good young players as they do, plus good young players with experience, plus even though Olaf Kolzig has about 120,000 miles on him, he's still better than a lot of goalies in this lig. And, the players love playing for Glen Hanlon...don't discount that either.
We can roll out THREE deep scoring lines right now (Ovechkin, Nylander, Clark Semin, Kozlov, Fehr, Backstrom, Klepis, Giroux). Plus we've got great role players and lockdown forwards like Boyd Gordon (shut down El Sid for most of last year), Ben Clymer, Donald Brashear, Matt Bradley, Brian Sutherby....these guys can check and defend as well as any group of forwards in the lig
And we would have made the playoffs last year (or come very very very close to) if Olie and 90% of the starting defense didn't go down with injuries

As with any prospect, it can go either way but most often somewhere in the middle. I particularly love the little joke in there to make Staal look like a no brainer of course! Ha ha ha!

Man oh man....the Canucks are really building themselves a great D out there...they resigned Bieksa today, then signed Aaron Miller, and theyve still got Sami Salo back there, who's probably got the best point shot in the game on the PP (I would even say better than Souray's), plus Lukas Krajicek, Mattias Ohlund and Willie Mitchell
That is a DAMNED good D Corps...plus with Luongo? If they can find anyone who can score besides the Sedins, id pick them to win the West
The Islanders named Bill Guerin captain today. They didn't mention that to him beforehand. (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2930997)

The MVP of the league this year to me was Luongo, not Crosby. Pitt's coach turned that team around, along with a GM that made some nice additions to add some grit, but a little too late to get accustomed to playing together for the playoffs. They've also made some nice moves this year, but still need that grit on the blueline to help out a young, still adjusting goalie and team. Sydor is a slick, smart, puck moving D man who will bring leadership and heart to the D, but he's no banger. They really don't have that overall.
Back to Vanc, Ohlund is a huge possibility for a trade. They now have more then enough NHL ready D, added Miller as a role D man in his late years as he brings grit and leadership to their blueline as well. Sure he's big, but he is slowing down and can't handle high teen/20 minutes a night like he used to. He'll have to play a 5/6 D spot, or at least get paired with one of their D with wheels as he's getting beat much more of late by the better skaters. He relies a ton on position at his size and he's only getting slower quick as the bigger D usually do. (funny, getting slower quick!) If they use him in another role expecting something more of him they'll get hurt by it.
Ohlund may be moved for some offense bc let's face it, they can't win 2-1 or 1-0 every night, even with Luongo. They have very little O, even if Naslund rebounds from his less then normal year. They were hurt a ton by the loss of Bertuzzi's abilities after the asshole ruined Steve Moore's career. Fuck that cunt! They have no power forward to speak of, or even a decent net pressence. In reality, I'm not sold on their D but in fact think their goalie was just that good. Look at the stats just a year earlier with Cloutier. Pretty much the same D with a lesser goalie and the stats show that they can't control the game, it's mainly the goalie that has been the difference. Sure Salo has a shot, so does Bieska and Ohlund for that matter, but they aren't the best in their end and I do see them play a lot being an Avs fan. I also like to check out the Sedins, Luongo and Naslund too so I catch a ton of their games on top of those.

No shit, that's a pretty damn good deal on Souray. Things aren't so bad in Oil town with the last few signings but can they contend?? I'm not convinced they'll be strong enough over an 82 game season.
And get on the Rangers all you want but they have the same cap and floor as everyone else. I'm not with the crowd/mob screaming about this year's free agent moves as the Flames were smart and the Sabres weren't. It's that simple and clear to see. Based on your team's location/market and feel, you have to work your contracting differently and waiting until the offseason to contend with WHATEVER team has a lot more room under the cap and big city lures is not a smart tactic.

Thats never good when all your best scorers are on the BACK line....the Caps had that one year when we had 3 20 goal defensemen (Kevin Hatcher, Calle Johansson and Sylvain Cote) and that really didn't work out to well
Theyre too thin up front for me to think theyre going to contend seriously....

I was kinda bummed out about Alexandre Giroux signing with Atlanta until i realized that we had another good prospect, Francois Bouchard (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/francois_bouchard) (brother of Pierre-Marc Bouchard), who we drafted in 2006 and just led QMJHL in scoring last year....there was an article in the paper about him trying to make the team this year, and how well he was doing in camp so
2005-06: Bouchard’s offensive explosion in his sophomore season was quite unexpected, as Bouchard amassed a very impressive 102 points in only 69 games, filling the big hole created on the Drakkar forward line after Edmonton prospect Jean-Francois Jacques graduated to the professional ranks. Bouchard was an integral part of Baie-Comeau’s burgeoning power play, doing more setting up than scoring. He played for Team Cherry at the CHL Top Prospects Game, and was also a member of Canada’s under-18 team.
2006-07: He led the entire league with 125 points (45 goals and 80 assists) in 68 games and was awarded the Jean-Béliveau Trophy for winning the QMJHL scoring title
Bouchard is an adept playmaker, with a quick release and great vision in the offensive zone, but is also an excellent shooter, with a great release and a hard shot, and a strong nose for the net. Bouchard is agile, but his foot-speed needs a bit of work. There is also concern about Bouchard’s consistency, and ability to elevate his play when it matters. He was counted on as being a valuable contributor for the under-18 squad this past spring, but disappointed due to a lack of hard work and bouts of discipline problems, and thus saw his ice-time drastically reduced.
Man I hope this guy can keep his head together...sounds like he has a ton of talent, and its yet ANOTHER reason to be optimistic as a Caps fan

Matt Cullen was heading out for an offseason workout with some buddies in Minnesota on Tuesday morning. For some reason, he took his New York Rangers red, white and blue gear out of his hockey bag and replaced it with some old Carolina Hurricanes stuff.
The Hurricanes gave up 27-year-old defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, who has one year left on his contract at $500,000, and 21-year-old Joe Barnes, a 6-foot-3, 212-pound center in the second year of his entry-level contract.

The yanks can and often employ that very tactic indeed, but Kev hit the nail on the head with my feelings on the Rangers in this era. I don't blame the Rangers for how poorly the Sabres handled thier free agents before and after the market opened up. Everyone had their chance, and they went full tilt for these guys, taking themselves out of the race for the next few years worth of top prospects. Just as the new cap took the Avs out of the race for free agents (actually lost a ton of players) the first few years as they had to adjust their strategy. And I'm happy with the way they have changed the team on and off the ice. Oh yah, fuck the yanks.

Staal Brothers arrested.... (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=214589&hubname=nhl)
Both brothers were charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal process, while Jordan was also charged with consumption of alcohol while under 21 years of age. Eric's agent, Rick Curran, said he expected the misdemeanor charges to be reduced or dismissed.
According to a statement released by the Cook County Sheriff's office, after the Sheriff's office received complaints about "screaming, yelling and playing loud music," the group of about 20 was warned "multiple times" before it was ordered to leave the resort by Sheriff's deputies, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper and a U.S. Border Patrol agent at 3 a.m. Monday.
"After leaving the property, the group gathered on Highway 61 and began harassing passing motorists," the Sheriff's office said, at which point 14 members of the group were arrested at approximately 4 a.m. Eric Staal was one of 10 people to spend the night in jail.

i read that the other day. its nice knowing your team has reliable prospects in the system.
in other news, buffalo re-signed derek roy to a 6 year 24 mil. contract. i like roy but i don't think he is worth that money yet, who knows, he might surprise me. he needs to cut the diving shit though, he gets pretty rediculous at times.

Yea, but this kid no where near a 24mil dollar player.. He is jumping from 490 k to 4mil... Anaheim is 5mil under, and re signing this guy would take a huge chunk.. And not knowing what Nieder and Salani are gunna do, thats big.. At least your kid was worth close to it, if he went on the open market.. This contract is ridiculous.. I think i would be pissed..

regier has never been about giving long contracts though. almost all of the signings in buffalo over the last 6-7 years have almost all been for 3 years or less. hell, miller only got a 3 year contract last year when any team would want to wrap up a goalie like that for longer. he always looks out for a possibility to not get tied with an overplayed player for a long term deal (yashin anyone?) this has hurt the team because if players play well during that short contract with the sabres, other teams come in with more money and sweep away (ie drury and briere). i think regier wanted to get vanek signed to something like 5 years for 28 mil. nothing like a 7 year 50.3 mil. contract. now, derek roy just got a deal 6 year 24 mil. which i was very surprised about. i like roy a lot, he's a lot like jason blake, small, fast, and is a pest. but i don't know if he is worth that much. also, he is a fucking diver, and i can't stand that in a player.

are you saying kevyn adams is a talent or the other players chicago picked up?
i personally like adams and the way he plays but i wouldn't describe him as a "talent". he only had 12 points last year.
