..... More so then The Beastie Boys...

Pauls Boutique and License to Ill were amazing albums, but have done nothing since and can still go and sell out any stadium they want....

I can't think of many other bands (outside of someone like Billy Joel) that could live off success so long ago and w/o any good output since then

I have to agree with the Don. Ill Communications and Check you head were great.

Ill Communications was all my friends and I listened to our senior year

i understand people are going to enjoy check your head/sabotage etc... but you cant compare the hit factor of the first two albums to those....

I'm not sure, but I'd say that Ill Communications and Hello Nasty, probably had more commercial success then Paul's Boutique. I think Boutique is there best album by a long shot , but I don not think it's fair to say that the rest of their albums were successful. And I don't even know if you really should throw License to Ill in the mix, because I'm pretty sure that they're almost embarrassed about that album, I can't think of anybody else that grew up as much between their first and second album.

Paul's Boutique had hits? It was was kind of considered a flop when it came out as a follow up to License to Ill and was widely revered in retrospect. Check your Head is the CD that really put them backon the map.

You really couldn't be any more wrong.

Why not????
"So What'cha Want" was one of the biggest songs of the early 90's.

Rolling Stones, The Who, Paul McCartney.

I understand what you mean when you say the Stones are living off past success, but don't forget they had 20 years of unbelievable music before they started coasting for the past 25.

I give them a pass because I think they earned it, and the fact that they're all stinking rich yet still tour the planet at 60+ years of age shows they've still got rock and roll in their blood, even if they're nowhere near what they used to be.

Guns N' Roses?

i don't know if they count, since they haven't put anything out in 15 years and basicly only put out 3 cd's

Well, Check Your Head, according to a quick glance at wikipedia was maybe there worst album commercially....

Now, maybe its my preference, but, personally outside of a couple songs on Ill Communication/Hello Nasty/Too the 5 boroughs, I dont think those albums are all that great, and I compliment there success on a better marketing campaign....

just my opinion and, guessing by some of hte posts here I am totally off base

I just looked at wikipedia. Check Your Head sold double platinum, just like Paul's Boutique. Paul's Boutique was their lowest charting album, peaking at #14.

The singles information doesn't bear out your theories either. While the first records was a monster hit, selling 9 times platinum, they've only had one single in the top 10 of the hot 100. While it's hard to top a debut like that, their chart success of later releases compared to Paul's Boutique, while on charts for different genres, is really comparable.

From a fact perspective, I think you're all wrong, but if you're merely talking from a quality perspective, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I'd say Rob Zombie. I loved White Zombies first major album La Sexorcisto: Devil Music. Since then Rob Zombie has played a different version of the same song every time out there. Not to mention being attached to direct every horror movie remake known to man.

OK, let's all stop calling it "the 'Sabotage' album." It's Ill Communication.

First off, huge Beastie Boys fan.. damn near everything they have done is incredible work.

As far as a more recent band nailing it on their first 2 albums.. I'd go with Linkin Park...

The first 2 albums sold nearly 30 million copies worldwide.. I'd say they might qualify.

'Paul's Boutique'
Beastie Boys, 1989

Rise: The New York trio's slap-happy debut, 'Licensed to Ill,' was the first hip-hop album to hit No. 1.

Fall: Though eventually revered as a hip-hop landmark, 'Paul's' was roundly ignored by a public that wanted more 'Ill' behavior, and it gained its legendary status and much of its sales only in the past 10 years.

Stats: 'Licensed to Ill' (1986), 9 million; 'Paul's Boutique,' 2 million
